74223, For all you 8 injector guys
Posted by 95greenhrcgs, Jul-22-04 07:09 AM
I am close to getting everything I need for my 8 injector setup. Pretty much the only thing that I need is a 3-bar MAP.

I plan on getting one NEW, and dont mind paying the xtra money to get it done right. Do any of you guys know where I can get one, and exactly which one I should use? I Google'd but dont know which one to get. If any of you have pics of yours, that would be a bonus.

Thanks
Jonathan

What are you using to control your extra 4 injectors? The 034EIC comes with a MAP built in. So does the MS, and most other AIC units come with their own MAP sensors.

I am using the 034EIC that Corbin gave me. I was under the impression that I had to buy a 3-bar.

Do we retain the stock MAP sensor also???

Now I am confused.

Anymore info?

Jon

Hey Jon, I got your back on this one brother. I've just been too busy to get back at you, work has been nuts... I will be getting back to you soon via e-mail. But for right now all you need is a GM 3 bar map sensor. I bought an MSD unit that is ment for use with the boost timing retard modules. You can get the same thing from crane. Then you need to get a GM map sensor pigtail to use to plug the seneor to the wires from the 034. You might be able to buy the pigtail from MSD or crane as well. Or you could just call a GM dealer and get it all..
EDIT: And yes you retain the stock map for your primary injectors and the ECU to use...

What the heck are you guys talking about? The 034EIC has an integrated 2.5bar map sensor built into the unit. Always has. The 034EFI which is more standalone-ish doesn't have a MAP integrated. Call me crazy but I don't know why you are buying another MAP sensor unless you plan on bypassing the onboard MAP sensor on the 034EIC(which I'm not sure is even possible).

EDIT: The MAP sensor sold for the Crane TRC-2 (Timing Retard Controller) is only a 2 bar MAP. The MSD one maybe 3 bar but the Crane one is definitely 2 bar.

I can't get into why, Thura but his is different. Both Crane and MSD do make a 2 bar and a 3 bar for there boost timing items (or at least they did :shrug ). Jon, P.M. me your phone # and I'll call you tonight to discuss your situation.

Well, regardless you guys just need to be aware the 3bar MAPs are all a little different on what voltage maps to what pressure. And be sure that the code in Jon's EIC is calibrated/programmed for a 3bar map and not a 2.5bar because that will throw off your fuel maps.

Those MAP sensors that MSD and Crane use are generic. I dunno who makes them, but if you look around you should be able to find one cheap. I'll sell you my 2 bar one from my MSD if those bastards don't warranty my 6212. Damnit. :(

Well the sensor that Javad uses is a GM type sensor. So as long as he get's a GM type map sensor then the voltages are going to match just fine. They all have the same voltage range of what 0-5V :shrug So as long as it's a GM type unit there will be no need to calibrate the unit. Plus there is a setting in the software for a 3 bar sensor so that would be ok.
Well I do want to say Jon you do not have to use a 3 bar map sensor at all. If you wish you can just use a 2 bar or a 2.5 bar or what have you.

Ah I did not know there were software settings to change that. Since you have the option get the 3 bar map. GM sensors are cheap. Go to an auto store and ask for a 3 pin 3bar gm map sensor. I'd hope they would know what you are talking about. If you get one of hte relabeled Crane ones it costs more for some strange reason.

The patrs guys around here are generally stupid. You could ask for that and they'd want an application to look itup in the system... not very bright. the only thing I could think of that might have a 3 bar and be GM would be the Grand National or T-Type.

Electromotive also has GM 3 bar map sensors, so if you find an Electromotive dealer that'll work.

Thanks guys. You have been more than helpful. Other than getting this 8 injector setup going, I SHOULD be seeing you in Ohio. That has been the plan for the last year.

Kirby I PM'ed you all the "secret Squirrel" stuff. Hopefully we can get together soon to get this beast on the road and running happily.

BTW I just bought a GM 3-bar and pigtail. Hopefully that will be here soon.

I just wanted to say that you guys with this 8 injector setup, man that is some crazy stuff. How do you know all this? its stuff like this that scares me about turbo'ing my 420a. I don't know about any of this. Can you point a bother to some online resources?

Oh yeah, sorry for highjacking the thread,
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Jon,

We can discuss any additional secret squirrel business when you pick up the engine this weekend. We can run through some of the software too, if you want.

Scothern,

I'm a little biased, but the best 8 injector resource at the moment is: http://www.2gnt.com/www/corbin/8inj.html
That outlines the basics.

Damn the 3-bar and pigtail are on backorder!!!! NOOOOOOO!

I will try to find one somewhere else.

Corbin, I will definitely be at your house between 10-11 to pick up the motor. Any additional "squirrel secrets" you can give me will be great. See you tomorrow.

Where are you ordering the pigtail from? Mine is messed up and I need another one.

Well I did order it from DSMotorsports, but they e-mailed me and said that it was on backorder. So back to the drawing board to find one.

Backorder has OWNED me ever since I bought my car ;(
