Okay here is the deal short and sweet, please help me out. the engine knocks. lol. when at idle, it doesnt knock ... when i give it gas and when driving, it does knock. its not too loud but its deff noticable. thought it could be a rob bearing that spun so i am going to change them this weekend. i am also going to change the knock sensor, why, i dont know, the guy down the road just told me to! also, he also said that with the 420a, i could drop the pan and put in new pistons/rods just by sliding them out of the bottom, is that true? answers to all above questions would be GREATLY appreciated! thanks in advance!

it probably is a spun rod bearing, but you can't just swap them in. you can't drop them out through the bottom where the oil pan goes. the crank is in the way. you have to pull the tranny to get the crank out, which you should do anyway because with a spun bearing you need to have the crank ground and get oversize bearings. this is not a simple task. you are looking at a couple bucks and some time. and no, don't change the knock sensor.

k just for the record i am not doubting you cuz i dont know myself but this is what the guy said now ... he said that when i take off the rod end cap, if i rotate the crank so that cyl is at the bottom, there would be enough clearance to pull down the piston and rod. i am looking to just get me by without getting the crank turned. i dont think its too bad, i used a micrometer and it was barely scored on cyl#1. no scratches or anything though. should i do a comp. test at all or what should i do from here. btw, why not change the knock sensor?

hmm how did you mic the crank with the rod resting on it? or did you already drop the oil pan and pull the bottom of the rod off and put the rest of the rod up and then mic it? i'm assuming you did that for the other 3 as well then? i haven't looked up do you know what the tolerance's should be?

I've never really tried I don't think, but I'm pretty sure you can't get the pistons and rods out from the bottom, you have to push them up out of the top of the block, but I could be wrong. If you have any crank wear you will just re-spin whatever bearing it is. Get some plastigauge and see what you clearences are or use a mic.

no i thought it was spun bearing the first time but it wasnt djtrickee. yes, i pulled the end cap off the rod and checked all 4 on the crank and just the cyl#1 was BARELY out of round. i used a mic btw. i guess i can try pulling down the rod and piston, right!? lol. what causes a rod bearing to spin though???

No one. No where. That is not a common oversize option. Your only easy-to-find options are .010, .020, and standard.

Just like i told you in the other thread, .002 bearing clearance is within factory spec. You have an oil pressure problem, or the rod big end is out of round.

Your subject is also misleading - your problem isn't from the turbo, your problem is because you're listening to fucking morons who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. .002 oversized bearings? what the fuck?

If you start another thread on this subject, i'm gonna lock it. Give up, do it right, turn the crank down .010 and replace the rod that was on that journal, and let the rest of us move on to people that actually want to be helped and not just validated.

I wondered how long someone would wait. I don't know who "this guy down the street" is but man I wouldn't listen to him about anything. Nor would I question people who have been there and done that.
