7316, Blow-by out the crank case ventillation tube? Posted by brickardius, Jul-12-01 01:08 PM
Hey guys, what is blow-by and what causes it? On high boost runs on my 420a engine, the crank case ventilation tube will "blow" oil out...canceling the vaccume that it usually has... I have a oil drip can so it doesnt spew oil all over my engine or in my intake anymore, but I was wondering what causes it and if it's something to be concerned about?
Thanks, Brad Rickard 98 gs

Yeah, I am new to this site, the email groups, and DSM's in general. I have been a Nissan only fan for a long while, driving a 96 300zx TT, 4wd & HICAS Fairlady kinda spoiled me (and a 240sx to 180sx conversion on the side, and a MAXIMA as my daily reliable driver), but I was always excited at the progress my buddy was having with his 98 Mitsu GS... ended up attached to his car and working on it more than mine so I ended up buying it off of him 6 months ago. He was the type of guy that had loads of money and just had people install all kinds of crazy shit on his ride, so I get the joy of working out the billions on kinks of a car with close to 60K in aftermarket parts installed.... BTW, thanks for the welcome and I will throughly navigate through the site before posting again ;-) -- brad 98 gs

7319, I'm calling you out on this one.... Posted by fastdsm, Jul-13-01 01:11 AM
Okay Brickhouse or whatever your name is....I call BULLSHIT on this one. This car now has 60K in mods and it runs 11's??? And with 60K in mods you STILL don't have an aftermarket TB and Intake Manifold???? Let's see some pics to back this BS up....

1. No one makes a manifold for us.
2. He has a stage 5 HRC setup.

For 60K I'd have a custom piece.... He "may" have a stage 5 but he damn sure doesn't have 60K in mods. Hell, I can't even come close to 60K in mods for one of these cars INCLUDING the 15K Quaife 6 speed manual tranny!!!!

7322, RE: Blow-by out the crank case ventillation tube? Posted by ThunderRIP, Jul-13-01 05:02 AM
I have to say that I call BS too, first of all my friend since when those the 300zx have 4WD? They do bring the Hicas system but not awd.
If you were to spend 60K in a eclipse you will be able to make it as fast as your brain can take, I mea I know for a fact that you come to a shop with $60k and you drive out with a monster.
And now that you say you are linked to nissan, I will like to know what mods you have in your Z, I mean I'm a Z enthusiast, and I'm sure if you know about the Z you have heard about DSP racing...lets just say I'm linked with them some how.
Thank you

OK done, after the pics i'll write SOME of the mods, I dont feel like listing every small little thing. Better not be so quick to call someone a liar nexttime, huh? Don't be dickheads. if you don't think he's got what he says he's got, that's fine, keep it to yourself. No one else is interested in what you have to say about it. Like the rules say, if you have exception with something someone else is posting, TAKE IT UP OFF LINE or in EMAIl. This is not the place for that kind of attitude.

7334, Questions Posted by JasonESi_T, Jul-13-01 08:39 AM
LAST EDITED ON 13-Jul-01 AT 01:42 PM (PST)First, I must say...nice car :-) You gota admit though, before you come on the board and start spouting off "11's," it's not easy for anyone to believe that. (That's right there with HRC!)
Next, I do have some questions. Can you tell me where the Accel piggyback cpu is? I think that was included in stage 5. Also, stage 5 includes a Mitsu Super 20g turbo. That's a mighty big turbo...can you describe how fast it spools and what kinda power it delivers??
Also, where did you mount the B & M FPR and why did you choose to go with that one instead?
The exhaust manifold looks EXACTLY like my HRC one. Why did you say it was custom? B/c it's painted?
They don't make Enkei Shoguns in 18's? ....only in 17's right?
Can you show us what the turbo warp looks like? I've never personally seen what it looks like on a turbo.
Thanks ahead of time. It's still a sharp looking car. (time slips would shut everyone up man) You da man! (heheh)

7335, RE: Questions Posted by brickardius, Jul-13-01 09:50 AM
Yeah, those pics are a little out-dated, whenever I find the Lithium Ion Battery for my damn digital cam, I'll post some new ones... Then engine bay has gone through a lot of changes most of all, just looks though, havent done much more power wise because I am coming to a stand still on parts for the 420a. Guess I found the right place finally, huh? :-) You guys have been really helpful so far, aside from the little kids that talk shit, but thats on every site you find... Someone asked about the Enkei's, yes they're 18's and they do make them, so go buy you some! They're nice, she had 19's on her for a few days but they just rubbed the plastic fender wells too bad.... Yes, unfortunately, a lot of the money is in the stereo, a total waste if you ask me, but that was the previous owner, not me... If everyone around here didnt like it so much, I'd sell it and loose a few hundred pounds of unsprung weight... Sometime down the road... But the neat thing about that box is 2 handles are on each side that slide up and 2 people can set the box up and uncllip all the wires and take the box out to race in under 15 min... so it's not too bad... Well, I'm gonna go boostn' now, later guys. -- Brad 98 GS

7336, RE: Questions Posted by BLKOUT, Jul-13-01 11:44 AM
Yeah I agree thats it's a very good lookin piece. However I have a few questions as well. Before you get mad I just want to know the answers, if it's just an error thats fine. First, how do you have a custom header on a turbo kit? Also, who made it? Second, you said that you said you have a HKS head gasket but then you said you have a custom head gasket, which is it? What is the thickness on it? Third, you mentioned that you have an underdrive pulley kit, is that just the crank pulley or all the pulleys? If it's all the pulleys who made it, because I have never been able to find anyone who makes anything besides the crank. Fourth, why did you wrap the entire exhaust with heat wrap? I know the benefits but do you think you gained anything from going to that extreme? Thats all. If you could just answer these for me, I would appreciate it. Again, not trying to start anything just wondering. Thanks. Joe 97 GS w/ Hahn stage 2 Keep cruisin' & keep the shiny side up. http://joeseclipse.homestead.com

7337, RE: Questions Posted by spaniard372, Jul-13-01 03:12 PM
some questions too about the ride (and like BLKOUT i'm not starting anything so don't e-mail me angry okay :D) glancing over your list the 60k looks a little generous, i'd say about 35k with no hook ups along the way. But with a car like that i would think a couple friends at some shops would have been made sooner or later that would give some deals. i noticed you have quite a bit of work put into the suspension and handling capabilities of the car with the strut bars, shocks, camber kit, stillen brake kit, etc. because of this, i was wondering why the car has a vinyl interior. in my opinion not only does leather look better, but it would hold you in your seat much more effectively. or even better yet a suade middle insert would be the best. vinyl seems to me the worst material to upholster the seats with (too much sliding around). and when you said "show car", what were you refering to? the engine bay doesn't seem show quality. clean for a daily driven, but not near show standards. your reservoirs are dirty and stained and what not. the stereo is awesome, props with that. but again i don't see show quality. the asthetics yes, but it will get blown away w/only one 12 (in a sound competition, won't produce nearly enough decibals). i mean, i have two JL Audio 12's just to roll around town with. one suggestion is buy out the equipment so you can take the "rockford" vinyl off the windshield. i'm just not a fan of stickers. but if they want to sponsor all that equipment in my car for dirt cheap, bring on the logos. keyword is "dirt" though, i'll pass on offers to keep the "clean" look. they better be good :D are you planning on finishing out the body kit as well (rear, side, etc.)? i am just asking cuz you said you were into looks right now. looks good as is though (clean), EXACTLY like mine (stillen front, commando wing, taillights, FMIC :D, etc.) i got a couple more things along the way though, plus i have chrome housing projectors. my list of mods however does humble to yours hehe. the picture focusing on the wheel, is that an 18' rim? just asking cuz i have 18's but they seem to be bigger (probably just the differing styles though or picture). and i don't think those tires are the scorchers (scorchers are the yellow ones). correct me if i'm wrong. the blue, red, and yellow tires each have different names i believe. in the rear of the car where the license plate should be, i can't really tell from the picture but is that a brake light or reflector centered there? i'm not sure from the picture but i was wondering. also curious, with all that money why wasn't a carbon fiber hood opted for? personal preference? not that you should have one, i was considering buying one but i like my car without one (the chrome in the projectors, clear lights all the way around, and silver w/purple pearl paint gives a real clean look. didn't want to give that up. and painting carbon fiber takes something away from the hood to me). i was curious how the FPR is working for you? any probs? just wondering cuz RRE doesn't recommend the regulator for our cars for what reason i'm not sure. is everything functioning fine with it? they say it is only for 1G turbo and NT, 2G turbo, and 3G eclipses. (we're the black sheep hehe) and the 11 second passes in the 1/4, that's impressive. not pointing fingers but if we could get some time slips that would be awesome. that's peculiar too, if you have all that stereo equipment, and enough engine mods to run those E/T's how come only a Rockford sponsorship. seemingly you have the second fastest 2GNT in the world, hard to believe you can't land anything else. with all the stillen products, (front end, wing, rotors, strut bars, camber kit, rotors, calipers, brake lines, short shifter, etc.), you're like a poster child for the company (no disrespect). that would be an ideal company to approach possibly. i'm sure they wouldn't mind some representation in your area. just seems odd that's all. but yes i am aware of how hard it is to land deals with companies so i'm not naive. finally, close to 60k and no INDIGLO GAUGES!! WHAT THE $@^%!! everybody's getting them!! haha...LOL. j/k, though i am a happy owner of a set. overall the car is awesome. really nice. kinda sad how it was put together but hopefully you will appreciate it more than the last owner. anybody can have some money and dump into a car, but the kid in HS working 45+ hours a week bussing tables all summer to do what he can to the ride, that's what it's all about. that's me! hehe :D (the first summer w/the eclipse was great) now i got college tuition to worry about and i'm still doing what i can. i love it!!! as long as you have genuine interest for your car, and a passion for your ride, you got my support. nice car....can't wait to watch it grow. (if it can much more hehe). peace.

7339, RE: sorry... Posted by brickardius, Jul-13-01 03:38 PM
Custom header = ceramic coated exhaust manifold.. tires are Scorcher TA's, red tread stripes, yes they're 18's I think they look small too.... always have probably cause of the 35 series tires a bit..... I'm not too happy with the tires for cornering ability and they suck in weather which they rarely see.... I think I'll got with the Parada's next fall. Yeah, those pics were awhile ago, last winter... things have changed and yes I have got the silly ass Kicker sticker off now! BTW, the system is for show and I am not into all the bass you kids are into... too much boom boom... I like a good bass fill, but hate seeing rice burners rattlin' every screw loose on their rides... I am thinking of getting a Predator hood, any of you all have experience with those hoods? Any lighter than stock or just for looks with the air dams and stuff, I think they had one on the eclipse featured 2 months back in SCC. BTW, its KICKER not Rockford, I havent liked Rockford or bought their products since their guy left them and went to MTX. Their older stuff was great though. The sponsorships were from the previous owners doings.. not mine... I dont race the car except some street racing, I'm not into all that right now with working and finishing college and getting married before too aweful long... I dont have time to piss let alone set aside time to get to the track... hell... I'm an avid snowboarder but havent even made it out the past 2 seasons because i've been so busy... I run low 12's with just boost... 11's were only accomplished with a 100 shot of NOS, which I spray about every blue moon.... If I was sponsored I wouldnt worry about it but Its taken a lot of money to get where I am right now and I cant afford to burn up the engine... Theres definately 60K tied up in the car and aftermarket, but I might have blown my wad a lil' bit saying 60K aftermarket only, sorry.... I have never really thought it out or really wanted to know, lol.... The fiance wanted a house, I wanted a import I could fix up so I could mess up some domestics.... Go figure... Goodnight all.

hood was 450 and it's fiberglass, baby! pics will be up in about a month(over estimate) cause all my body work should be done by then. they said a week to repair what the Saturn did and another for the hood and deck weld and paint. so you gotta add another week or two cause you know how body shops are!

Have you showed it yet?? Probably not since you don't have enough time for anything. You should if you get the chance. Well...have fun with your car, and I'm glad to see that you went to the Eclipse instead of all your Nissans:P Cause personally, I think the Eclipse is the best looking car in it's class!! Late
