73123, fuel tuning ? Posted by icedout, Jun-25-04 09:26 AM
I have the sfmu w/ 30lb inj and walbro 255 and missing link. At idle I am reading 0 on the fuel gauge. I have changed the gauge to a liquid filled one and still 0... I have adjust the top of the sfmu and nothing... I can slowley rev up the throttle but can't wail on it or it stalls... Is there something that i'm not doing correctly. I'm a little stumped. Help greatly appreciate..... If anyone that is turbo'd is in NJ and wants to help out that would be even better.... TIA

If you had 0 psi your car wouldn't even start. Before you start the car and you prime your fuel pump, what does the gauge read? Nick 97RS

I'm telling you... this is stumping me.... the car will run no problem but neither one of the gauges are reading anything at idle.. The car will run but I can't WOT or it will stall... I let the car run for over 40 mins so it has fuel... could there be something with the sfmu or with vac...... I'm lost on ideas...

Most importantly, how do you have the SFMU and your fuel gauge hooked up. Like what lines run to where.. It should be like this:
From stock fuel rail test port(96+), line goes from here to the SFMU inlet(side port). You need to T off of this line to your fuel pressure gauge. From the bottom port on the SFMU, goes to the return line back to the tank(96+).
If you have a 95 model year, you should have disabled the stock FPR on the fuel rail, and from its test port, hook it up the same way as above, then the bottom port on the SFMU goes to the stock return line back to the tank.
If both gauges have only read 0 psi, then something is not hooked up properly, esp if the car is running fine.

I have from the rail to the sfmu (side port)I put the gauge in between the side port and rail. and then the bottom out to the tank. I took the SFMU apart and found a gash in the diaphram. I'v already ordered one from vortech but could this have been the problem....

No the diaphragm would only affect the boost/fuel curve. The static pressure is regulated purely by the spring in the SFMU.

Okay, I'll ask, did you take the shrader valve out of the stock rail?

Jerry, Just for shits take the fuel gauge off and turn on the fuel pump for a sec and see if fuel comes out. Maybe the hole isnt tapped completely through or the gauge is bottoming out on the fitting not allowing fuel to get into the gauge. Just some ideas I got off the top of my head. Give a ring if ya want.
