72983, Turbo is in... (Lots of pics, 56k...maybe)

Well I finally got my slowamatic '99 Eclipse turbo'd (actually put 2000 miles on already, had it done in mid may). I am much happier with my car now even though I still have a lot to do. I am currently running around 6psi with the stock A604, stock bottom end, and stock exhaust. I am running the SAFCII and 30lb injectors. I put down a not-impressive 167hp to the wheels when I had it tuned at MC Racing in OP, KS. :( Everything is running fairly smooth and seems to be tuned pretty well. Its basically a 'custom' kit. It has the Hahn manifold and S16G but other than that everything else was thrown together. Here are some pics of the setup. Want to thank my brother-in-law for all the help he provided (made the catchcan, did all the welding on the ic pipes, etc, etc, etc...). P.S. Don't laugh at my nicely painted front fascia, I will get it re-painted eventually. Thanks for the space...

167 at the wheels ain't THAT BAD? Put it this way, you still have more room for improvement with a larger cat-back, and you are at least +45 extra hps than stock.

Hell yeah it does. After we got it off the dyno and I finally drove it I couldn't believe it was my car. :D

been wondering how that was coming along. Good to see you have the custom kit done. 167 isnt too bad, still alot of stuff availble to do.

Talk to this guy. ^ He had some pretty bad ass ATX parts for sale. See if he has any left. IMO, keep the boost low and focus on protecting your tranny first.

Good work though, looks pretty pimp. :thumbsup

why is the BOV on the compressor outlet side before the intercooler?

Explain to me why it matters. I guess cuz i'm a dumbass! :shrug

Edit: ^^That sounds like I am being an ass but I am not. I really am just trying to see why it matters. Sorry for sounding stupid but everything is running great. What could this cause? Compressor surge since the air has to come closer to the turbo? Thanks for the replies. This is obviously the 1st time I have done something like this and I appreciate the knowledge if I did something completely wrong. :thumbsup

i dont think it matters. since the air would leave the intake system the same way as having it on the upic.

Hey, what mods do you have? I unlike the rest of the folks think 167hp is pretty fucking shitty for all the turbo work. I know your exhaust is probably the biggest problem, but it still seems low.

AFX UDP
AFX Bored TB
AEM Cam Gears (Set to 0 right now)
Hi-Flow Cat (with stock exhaust :) Also, the downpipe is pretty hoarked up right now)
Other than that its really just the turbo setup that I have. Running like I said about ~6psi on the stock A604. I was pretty disappointed in the numbers as well but I wasn't expecting a lot with it being an auto. I just know its a lot better than it was before.

Thats what our thoughts were on the topic. But with people asking why I thought maybe I screwed something up. Like I said its running good, BOV sounds great and is releasing the pressure so I don't know.

It doesn't matter which pipe it's on.

nice, i love the new HRC manifold. or did you weld that badge on it yourself?

Yeah nice set up. I love the Hahn badged manifold (Did it come like that?). However, isn't type R BOV a bit of an overkill? :P Good numbers.

Cyan?? your back man? haha Nice setup you got there. Looks really good. The reason you want the BOV near the TB is because you dont want that pressure hitting the Butterfly on the TB. It would bend on higher boost. I'm sure you good now though, only 6lbs. You gotta thing also that it was 87.5 degrees outside. That really hurts as well. Nice car BTW.

That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard. I hate to be a dick about it but you leave me no choice. There's no way in hell that even 50 lbs. of boost will bend the throttle plate. The BOV is there to prevent boost from going back through the compressor when the thottle plate closes.

Please don't give advise when you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. :thumbsdown

167whp isnt bad. You guys gotta remember, a stock atx 2gNT only lays down 100-105whp.

6psi is going make a nice jump, but it isnt going to work miracles.

Uber -- thanks for the referral, but i believe all my atx parts are sold, aside from the tcm, shifter assembly and brake pedal

^^^ Exactly!!! In the import tuner dyno, they reported 112 whp on a manual (I think).

Put it this way, your making close to 190-200 crank hp when you think about it. That makes you feel better lol.

Also, me being at 5 psi AND on stock exhaust, I know that in the upper rpms, my car just feels more alive, pretty much around 45 mph and since the spool up is much faster. So, exhaust work will go a long way. Plus, you have a hi-flow cat with stock exhaust, which pretty much makes the cat upgrade useless.

Yeah, the BOV is probably quite a bit of a overkill but its what we had laying around. :D That son of a bitch is loud. }( . And yeah, the manifold came with that badge. I'm not really worried about the power. It is so much quicker now and I am fine with it right now. I am saving up for a rebuild, exhaust and probably a 5spd swap so once that is all done I will worry about the numbers ;) . The only real reason I put it on the dyno in the first place was to get it tuned correctly, I wasn't too worried about power but like I said, I was a little dissapointed. Thanks for the compliaments guys. I do appreciate it.
