72751, Intercooler install finished, with new pics

Just finished the last pipe after I got off work this morning. My welding job on the flange for the BOV is pretty shitty looking, but it doesn't leak. This last pipe was a bitch because it was so big and had the most bends. I used the cardboard tube that you can see sitting up on the fuse/relay box was used to aid me in getting alignment and pipes cut the right length, as I didn't have anyone to help me today. Anyways, it's great to have boost again, and it hit's really hard. I still would like to roll some beads on the 2" piping. I found a bead forming tool at work, but the dies were just barely to big to do the 2" piping( I did roll beads on the 2.5" pipe ends though). And I need to get some decent hose clamps, then I'll be done.. for now at least.

wow great custom job, yours looks a lot better than mine with intercooler piping and couplers from 10 different junkyard turbo cars haha.

is that intercooler mounted on there pretty good? Is there any play? Because if its just on there the mounts and stuff will bend. You should put something to give it some play like some rubber grommets or something. Cuz my starion intercooler got kinda twisted up because I just bolted into that bracket.

HadesOmega- I welded up a upper and lower bracket out of steel that can be seen on my first post about the new intercooler. Its some pretty beefy stuff, so it wont bend, if thats what you mean. Unless I bottom out the front end or something. I like the idea to put some rubber grommets to give it some play though, I may have to do that. Thanks for the idea, and thanks for the good words everybody.

Looks really good. I wish I had the stuff to custom make IC pipes so I could get rid of this Star FMIC and get something better.

Wow, very impressive. I'd like to see what you think a "shitty" job on the BOV is. How long have you been welding?

techboy- this is my first time welding, I bought a tig welder and a friend of mine showed me how to do it, although he hadn't welded since he got out of the navy like 10 years ago. It's Tig so it's pretty easy compared to other welding types, or so I'm told, since I haven't done any other types of welding. But Tig is a really slow type of welding. Anyways here's a pic of my shitty weld. And, I want your front bumper techboy. Let me nkow if it's ever for sale.

It's been shown that there is not enough evidence to support the theory that intercooler pipe length directly correlates with massive lag. There was a study done by a turbo manufacturer a while back to put this myth to rest. I cannot remember which one but I think it was turbonetics.

Nice job on the intercooler install. It looks real clean.

suieclipse-the piping is shorter than the star stage 2 that I previously had, granted the piping is larger in diameter which will make for more volume inside the piping, and the intercooler has more voume inside it as well, but it keeps the IAT alot lower than my previous setup. Also, the air will flow less restricted and with less turbulance in the larger diameter piping. I really have not noticed any more lag I had in the previous star stage 2. It's a T3/T4 so I'm not really going for the fast spoolup anyways, I'm going for top end grunt.
