72706, Runs lean after 4k rpm PLEASE HELP Posted by jwhit, Jun-16-04 03:38 PM
Ok, here is my problem. After 4000 rpm my egt's go up like a mofo. Its been doing this for a while, and I have tried several solutions to fix the problem, here is a list of them:
Replaced craptech w/ sfmu running 95 psi @ 8 psi on stock injectors
replaced MAP sensor twice and checked all wires in the entire harness for bad connections and added a new ground wire to the MAP harness.
replaced ecu
Replaced both o2 sensors
I have hrc stage 2 kit with fully built engine.
PLEASE HELP Thanks

I know when i ran 8-9 psi, and the sfmu, my fuel pressures were around 110 psi. Get your fuel pressure up a bit higher and see if that helps. I highly suggest to run 30 lb injectors for 8+ psi. What exactly do your EGT's hit anyway? If its 1575 or under, then that is ok. I like to keep mine around 1550 at the top of a long 4th gear pull

thanks for the reply. I have ran my fuel pressure all across the board, I have tried everything from 75 to 130 psi. My car used to run just fine, but one day this 4000 rpm run lean shit started and I can not get rid of it. I have also tried the radio shack fcd, but nothing seems to do the trick. Is there anything else that could cause this problem? My egt's stay below 900C until 4k rpm, then they go up and I don't want to know where they will stop. I thaught it may have been the hrc fcd clamping the voltage too low, making the car run lean, so to experiment I took it off to see if I would hit fuel cut under boost, but it seemed to run exactly the same. I hooked a datalogger up and the MAP voltage stayed around 3.89, which I know is too low. I thaught maybe the ecu had gone bad and was holding to a certain predetermend setting, so I got a new ecu and the same shit is happening. I am really close to driving this damn thing off a cliff. I think I have tried all possible remedies unless there are some I dont know about. Do you know anything else I should try?

Hmm I think I would swap out injectors as well, you never know they could be at fault.

yea for sure, at 8 psi, man IMO you NEED bigger then stockers...i have 310's on 8 psi daily - 12psi race... and im haven the same issues...IMO- get bigger injectors
maybe H FI-4080 Fuel Injector, 390 cc/min http://www.hahnracecraft.com/auto/engine/fuel%20injectors.htm
pretty nice price
good luck

Are you saying it never goes higher than 3.89? If that's the case and it's not related to a voltage clamp, then you have a bad MAP sensor. I've seen that happen before as well. Not a biggy, but you need to get a new one.

Thats the first thing I did. I actually replaced it twice, thinking that I may have gotten a bad one. I also lowered my boost down to 5psi today and same thing. Stock injectors should be able to handle 5psi right? Does anybody have any other ideas? This is really starting to get on my nerves. Being that it runs fine until exactly 4000 rpms, wouldn't that mean it has to be ecu/electrical related? Keep in mind that I have replaced the ecu, map sensor, and removed the entire wiring harness from the car to check it.:wtf

When you start having issues at above 4000 rpm's, that tends to mean you're in safe mode.
Have you checked your codes?

I have checked the codes and the only ones I get are for no speed sensor, evap system ( I removed it from the car a couple of years ago), and my egr system was removed again. Could it just be that the injectors are going bad? If the car was in safe mode wouldn't it have changed when I swapped out the ecu?
