72245, egts going up
Posted by xtrickedeclipsex, Jun-05-04 11:05 PM
I don’t get it, if I stay and hold w0t for like 6 second on the freeway (4th) the EGT’s will keep climbing...they it will go slowly, but it will hit 1600.

The hex screw on the top of the cartech is almost all the way screwed in- as far as I no that almost as rich as it can go..

I take a look at the plugs- there black. To rich….uhhhh ok- so I unscrew the hexbolt out a bit, then it will lean out…I don’t understand, if the plugs are black that means its rich as but EGT’s are still way to high- so I unscrew like 4 turns back, and you can feel it lean out…

I NO 310’s on 9 psi is plenty of fuel…what the hell am I doing wrong?

LOL I remember you (not tim) writing about how the fabricators of the turbo swear by the cartech...

did i ever say he swore by the cartech? nope... I said he liked it, and it would be fine for my application (8-11 psi). No offense- but you dont have a clue ... can anyone offer some real help?

Im in the same boat as well. My egts will climb to 1600 if im in 4th gear WOT pulls for about 9 seconds. Actually it seems mine climb at higher RPM range. Not so much the gear. Even in 3rd gear spurts around 5-7k i get just a bit over 1550. Im upgrading to the super fmu. I think that the cartech just does not do a 'good' enough job. Not saying it does not work, there are just things that work better.

No, I just think its funny you tend to say things; When you really have no idea what the hell you are saying. You just pop in on diffrent forum post's to give your 2 cents, when in all reality you don’t give any useful information at all- hence what this board is all about...

cartech fmu can't handle anything higher than stock injectors. get an sfmu and tune.

the cartech is good for throwing at people you dont like. i think thats why hahn sticks them in the turbo kits. so if you melt a piston, you can throw it at someone in anger.

even that wouldn't help. My egt reaches 1600 at about 10 seconds in WOT and I'm tune fine!...I think.

waitewaitewaite? we cant go w0t for more then 10 seconds? what about the track- if that were the case then no one here could run...Maybe im confused, or somthing is not tuned right on your car...is that normal? :scratch

yeah man like i told you from the time you were putting that turbo kit together...that craptech is going to give you problems...heck even my regular FMU didn't give me headaches, actually it gave me sufficient fuel and using the right disk...just a little in the rich side but good enough till i went SFMU and it was a whole lot better. but according to people here, and from people i know in my area that used that FPR, they all had problems with it. so take our advice and get rid of it. you'll notice the difference.

Ok ok ok ...enough bickering about the Cartech sucks this, it can't do that. Whatever.

I'm still using my Cartech w/ 30# injectors and it's working FLAWLESSLY for me...now.

The first bit of info that I need is which model are you using? There's 3 "styles" of Cartechs out there:

1: the old cast unit
2: the "old" billet unit that has 2 vacuum nipples on it (heehee, nipple)
3: the newest unit that has 1 vacuum nipple and a bleed valve.

I've got the #2 unit. If you don't have a fuel pressure gauge, GET ONE! That is the KEY component to properly tuning ANY/ALL fuel issues with the Cartech or any rising rate regulator for that much. You said you've got the top hex key turned ALL the way back in? That's WAY too much fuel bro. Mine's backed almost all the way out and I've getting 20-25psi of fuel pressure @ idle and when I hit 0in/Hg I'm ~40-45psi. @ 7psi of boost my fuel pressures are around 70psi. Yes, it's a bit rich, but it's not TOO rich. My EGTs never get above 1500-1550 even on LOOONG 4th gear pulls.

Another thing to consider is the following: how old is the unit and how long/hard was it used/abused before you got it? I've taken my unit apart AT LEAST 4 or 5 times and I can say, it's cake to rebuild. If you're pressures are rising too fast, back the bleed screw out. If that still doesn't do it, call BEGi and get the restrictor for the vacuum source. I had this issue, got the restrictor and my curve rises BEAUTIFULLY. The rebuild kit consists of a new bleed screw/valve (depending on the model you have), new diaphragm, new valve, and a new spring.

for those of you dissing the Cartech, I understand your gripes. The main reason I never "upgraded" to the SFMU is A) $$$ reasons and B) I'm almost done building my 8-injector setup. Do your research and actually try different possible solutions. The biggest solution I had for my Cartech unit was going directly to the source, Corky Bell. He manufactures and designed these units so I KNOW they work. If he uses them, then they've gotta work. Hit me up on AIM if anyone wants to talk about the Cartech. No bashing, but how I got it to work right, why it does what it does, etc. But please, no IMs telling me I'm stupid for sticking with it, or things of that nature. Thanks! :-D

I have the SFMU and 315cc injectors. No matter what I do with my fuel pressures I still hit 1600. Hard to see what happens after that, as my EGT gauge only goes to 1600. :(

did you fix the overheating issue? what was it?
72427, RE: egts going up

You mean my overheating issue? If so, yes I did. I replaced the thermostat with a 160* thermo, did a full flush on the system, cleaned it out with some Zerex, flushed it all out, refilled w/ 50/50 mix and she hasn't been happier!

or if you were talking about my over heating- yea, it was a warped head- and 2 cracks by the valve seats..fixed it all- and boom has not overheated yet
