Is there a way to figure out when the turbo begins building boost, and hits full boost on our cars?

go in car
drive down the street
press the pedal down
look at boost gauge/rpm

need any more?

^^^ Like what grain said. Also, if you drive down the street with a quiet exhaust and the music low, if you compare the sound of the turbo at idle, and at static (0 psi), you can hear a difference in spool time. Much louder... You can deffinitely here the "sshhhtttt...."

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

how come mine doesnt really seem loud? i got a 14b running 12psi right now and it doesnt "wine" like i think it should...... also, what kind of intercooler pipes are everyone using...i think my spoolup is slower because i went with 2.5" pipes....it seems like it takes an extra thousand rpms or so than what it should.... im never happy

doug

Don't know :shrug? Could just be the way a 14b is. As long as it builds boost at the "proper rpm" for that turbo then I would not worry imo...

well I'd need a turbo for that :-/

the while you are looking for is prodused by air passing the turbine side very rapidly. Liek a whistle. The sound will depend on your exhaust. I have a 2.5 full gst exhaust and i can hear the turbo make a little sound...nothing huge. When my DP gaster to cat was leaking that sucker could be heard very easy.....down the street could hear me spool. It also depends on the turbine size and compressor wheel trim. My star is a 48 i think but not sure.

I reach full boost by 2800 rpms

Try a larger DP and or exhaust, put that in your future plans high flow cat. 2.5 instercooler pipes are fine and will not prevent the turbo whistle you are looking for. Also try listing to your turbo at night when the streets are quiet...big difference.

I know all that info I ment when sizing a turbo for an application

Well tell us the app. and maybe some of us have suggestions. There are alot of different things that contribute to spool time. Displacement, exhaust size, etc. Let us know.

a star setup at 5-7psi on stock injectors and an upgraded turbo ...50 compressor housing 57trim compressor wheel 63. turbine housing..I was just curious how long it'd take to spool that with a 3 inch ehaust 2.5 downpipe fmic.

my 14b is loud. Not as loud as my T25 setup was but still you can really hear it.
