71786, what size fuel lines are people running? Posted by siueclipse, May-28-04 03:49 PM
im currently running 3/8's fuel line (hahn package), im thinking about going up to 1/2 fuel lines. Any thoughts about that? I don't see how it could hurt anything.
Remember.. you might have the pressure but not the flow.

i have reg fuel lines to the rail, and -6an ss braided on the test port and from the sfmu to the tank.

factory line is 5/16....3/8 iosmore than enough james....i woulnt go any larger dood, overkill. a frien of mine knows the formular for proper size of lines becasue he does hvac. we substituted the water values for gasoline values and the 5/16 appeared good enough as well. 3/8 will carry you to the top though with no hassels. with 3/8 though you need a return line of 5/16. 5/16 fuel line requires 1/4 return.
Here is my question bud.....how did you route the fuel line past the front crossmember? Meaning which route did you choose.

i am not familier with the Hahn fuel setup but i am in the process of building mine. I am using the factory setup....oem Regulator plugged internally. In engine bay the factory rubber line is cut and "t" with 6an fittings where a 6 an stainless line goes to SFMU with a 4 an stainless to 1/4 alum line to the tank.
How is yours setup? 96 Eagle talon ESI Star Stage II - Boost/oil/EGT gauges

I have -6an lines running to and from the tank.

3/8" or -6AN is plenty big. Big enough for like 1000 HP if you upgrade the stock low-flow fuel filter. Here's some good flow benchmark info for our cars - http://www.stevetek.com/R-FuelSys.html

Not trying to hijack here. but how did you guys get -6an line to connect to the fuelrail. I couldn't find a -4an female to -6an male anywhere. :shrug Let it be known.

customized, i would guess. thats what i may do for my 8 inj set-up. see my post a few lines below....

you wont find it. You would have to get a 6an swivel (9.00) then a 6/4an reducer (3.50) and hook your 6an line to that.
think grasshoppa......use a 4an line to a SFMU (example if you have it) Change out the 6an fitting on the FMU for a 4/6an reducer. 6an side will thread into the SFMU...just make sure to transfer the o-ring.

I have been doing some digging on this....for the record it is safe to say 5/16 feed is sufficiant for 450cc/min injectors probably good for 550cc considering you rarely ever put the injector to 100% duty cycle (fuel cut) The writeup is interesting but i find in inconclusive considering many chicago dsm members have run 10's with factory fuelline (5/16).
Nowi am really at a breaking point here deciding which way to go. I will be running 450cc dsm injectors. 5/16 is enough if thats as far as i go. (yeah i know...) AS for your opinions how far will 450's go as far as hp. i know this is really a guestimate considering every car is differently tuned.
running 1/2 lines through the subframe? good luck it will be tough

Up to 250HP = 5/16" or -04 AN Up to 375HP = 3/8" or -06 AN Up to 550HP = 1/2" or -08 AN Up to 800HP = 5/8" or -10 AN Up to 1200HP = 3/4" or -12 AN

ok so with the hahn setup....its 3/8's from the filter to the pump to the rail (feed). and then from the rail to the SFMU its 1/4. and then from the FMU back to the tank its 5/16. and from the SFMU to the fuel pressure gauge its 5/16 so WTF why is the rail to the SFMU 1/4?

Because they are using the shrader valve as the source connection to run a line to the SFMU. the shrader is actually a 4an. rather than spend the additional money to install the adapters to upgrade the line to 6an they just stick with 4an.

Turbo...i know where you got your info from, however that is when dealing with low pressures such as a carburated system where the pressure of 7-20lbs remains constant and does not vary as ours do. I am going tohave to dig up the flow formulas here to prove this since no one really has a concrete answer.

a 3/8 line will flow 20 lph....there is no way you would need any more than that even if you were pumping 12oo hp. Whatever drug your on i want to try it.....lol

I have the formulas but there are some values of gasoline that i dont know and i dont think we can find them out. evap coefficient is one.
I am tied up till june 10th with getting my eclipse ready for a show but after that i an going to build a Bench test flow system in my grage to see what flow rates we have. I have a spare fuel pump, regulator and 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 line. I will have my factory regulator to do a factory simulation.
for the injector aspect i was going to pinch the end of the fuel line until i get the proper cc/min flow to simulate 100 duty for a set of 450cc 550, and 650 injector rates. Any opinions...maybe i should use different rates?
If anyone has 5' 1/2 line that would be great if you want to contribute to the cause. I will be using a factory pump which will eave the test a little on the conservative side. Anyone in IL area wanna help out on a weekend?
I could use a 96 fuel rail and factory injectors to add to the mix, i would like to try and use a factory set of injectors to be more accurate. I want to see how restrictive the actual factory fuel rubber line is and the small inlet on the rail. If anyone wants to contribute this i will return it when the test is completed with pictures and a nice writeup.
james if your planning on a naperville visit this would be a good time!
