Damn this 94* texas heat. Only drive for a distance of 10 miles (no boosting the 5psi monster), and the HRC SMIC was heat soaked. Normally the top end tank is warm, and the bottom is hot, however this time both ends was burning hot when touched. I need to build a scoop or install a pull fan behind it.
How are you guys dealing with it? I remember someone posting a scoop they built for a SMIC.
Fawk it, might as well go FMIC :P

Get the HRC FMIC. It's probably the best option out there for people with an HRC kit. Yeah, it breaks the bank, but it looks awesome and fits perfectly.
I tried to heat soak it once. 15 psi pull with a S16G on a 75 degree day. 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear to redline, IAT's never went above 90 degrees.

I just ordered my FMIC from street importds, it should arrive by this week . After that i will get some pics of it. It is the 21x9x3, i only got it for $260 shipped to the door. It is on sale for honda-tech and i got a friends user name and told them i found the thread on the site and they gave me the price for them which is $219 and $40 for shipping. I cant wait to get it, it flows well and have not heard any complaints.

Ive got the larger 24x12x3 version, flows a ton and have had zero problems. no heat soak problems and no overheating problems.

You should think about putting a small motorcycle radiator fan on the intercooler to force a higher air flow something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=35618&item=7902537279
you could even have it heat activated with a thermal switch or boost activated with a pressure switch , those are available in places like digikey.com

h20injection my son
5psi on the HRC sidemount shouldnt heat soak it unless you have NO flow over that intercooler
ive never had a problem with mine whatsoever :shrug

I imagine you've vented the splash shield in that wheel well to create a low pressure area for the air to flow to once it's hit the SMIC? If not, I'd be willing to bet that would help out a decent amount.
Just my 2 bits...

Hell, I just took that part of the splash gaurd out. Allow the air to flow better through there. Water sprayer may help.
IF you have the bean, get the HRC FMIC. I have it and love it.

the star FMIC is a good alternative to spending a bazillion dollars on an HRC...i ran at the track when it was a very humid 93 degrees and even after being WOT through 3.5 gears the IC was always very cool to touch...never once even approached warm...
