71211, I need a little help Posted by baddad, May-19-04 12:26 PM
My motor blew up on my 95 gs. I was going to have the whole thing rebuilt from the bottom up. I was even thinking of getting the stroker kit, but I was told that no matter how much money I was to put into it I was going to get the same thing down the road. Its called crank walk. I was told to do a motor swap with a 4g63t out of an 1st gn. What would be the best thing to do?????:wallbash

Who ever told you this needs to be shot, kicked in the junk, vomited on, etc.
First off your GS is equipped with a DCX motor the 420A, not the Mitsu motor, 4g63, found in the the turbo models. 420A's are not known for crankwalk, FYI. Bah, I can't even answer the rest of this.

baddad, ok, yeah, you got some really badd information - sorry for the lame joke, couldn't resist. As Uber was trying to say, there is really no such thing as crankwalk on the 420a engine. Crankwalk is most common on the 2G (later models; 97-99) 4G63 engines. So actually, swaping a 4g63 into your car would introduce the possibility of crankwalk. :nuts
As far as swaps go, your info was partially right, a 1st gen 4g63 is certianly the motor you would want to go with. Here's the part your friend doesn't understand ... to convert a 420A NT vehicle into a 4G63 would be EXTREMELY difficult, time consuming, and money draining. Notice I didn't say impossible, just not really worth it. You'd need an engine, tranny, all wiring harnesses, motor mounts, the list goes on - it'd be easier to buy another car.
So, what does all this mean IMO: keep your car, do a rebuild, or go with the stroker kit and you'll have a bullet-proof engine/car. Bash the person who gave you that info in the head :bash

Agreed. If you don't feel comfortable with rebuilding the engine yourself, buy a preassembled block from one of the reputable vendors who advertise at the top of this site. You should get an easy 100k out of anyone of them imo. :thumbsup
