First off i live in Rapid City, SD. In the middle of f***ing nowhere. the mechanic that has put my turbo in does not think i will need bigger injectors but this is because all he has worked with on eclipses has been 4G63, all he does is brag and how bad a 420A is and y i am wasting my monet this ticks me off. I would like to thank everyone here for all the wealth of knowledge i have learned. Anyway i was just quoted by the only dyno in town that for 440CC injectors, the Vortech SFMU, installing them, and then tuning them on the dyno with a wideband. He said between $800-1000. Is this a reasonable price. He seemed extremely nice and was curious as to how a 420A became turbo. I was just wondering how much anybody else has paid and if tuning on the dyno was really the way to go. Also how much have u guys retarded the timing (if any). My mechanic says i need to retard timing by 4-6 degrees to protect bad shit from happening so he ordered AEM cam gears or MSD ignition i forgot which one. Anyway all help would be appreciated. I have rebuilt almost everything in the engine and was hoping to run 15psi when i wanted. pistons rods, etc. but i have heard 8psi is max for stock injectors.

Another thing, i hate sturgis rally here, because it is so busy i can't get off work, and wouldn't u know the rally finishes up the weekend of the shootout.

if he charges you $1000, then minus the injectors and sfmu, thats about $400 for dyno tuning. kinda pricey imo. could use that $ on buying your own wideband and finding someone local that know how to tune, and search for some used injectors and sfmu to cut costs down.

Sounds pricey to me too.

I say you buy the wideband, use 2GNT to help you install it. Get used to how it works, then install your own injectors. I don't see why you would even need a dyno if you have a wideband O2 and EGT. I'm thinking with a turbo, you're just going to want to make sure you have a slightly richer than stoich mix throughout the rpm range. :shrug If you know how to adjust your a/f throughout your rpm range, then you should be able to (theoretically anyways) dial in the a/f to be right where you want it. Then take it to the dyno and make a couple runs to fine tune it. Don't let some choad rip you off imo.

I suggest you pick up the injectors and an SFMU on your own through contacts here or Ebay. What kit are you running or did you build the turbo system yourself? Stock injectors should be gone by the time you're intercooled and pushing more than 5 psi.

What about timing? I do have the Gude head package including the bigger cams? Just wondering if timing retard will be needed or will it be best to just get a datalogger to figure out? ALso does datalogger tell u injector duty cycle

Uh yeah. It's a perfect low cost solution for those unfortunate enough to not own a laptop or those who don't feel like shelling out even more money for PC logging software (not to mention OBDII cabling). In car, portable and affordable logging? Yeah, sign me up.

I quoted that from the website. I'm quite aware that our ECU's don't monitor fuel pressure. ;) I've been meaning to ask Mike (digitaltuning) or John what he means by "Fuel Pressure (Guage)". Maybe other cars have ECU's that monitor it. :shrug

I log boost, rpm, wideband a/f, fuel pressure, 2 different intake temps (before and after intercooler), egt temp, oil pressure.

You got a Techedge? Coolness... I just got done soldering mine together... it's a real nice kit...

Its bad ass. Make sure you download the latest versino of the software so you can monitor more things.

I don't see how anyone could tune without being able to log everything this one does.

I think your mechanic is a fucking dill hole too. I hate hearing about 4g63 being a much easier(better yea right!) engine.
Point A: The damn thing already has a turbo on it. A blind monkey could make it go faster!
Point B: Refer to point A
Point C: My car runs more often then most of the 4g63 cars around here/spokane that have = or < mods than mine. I can't even count the times I saw some 30 yr old guy/girl who 'thought' they knew that they were doing and fucked up thier factory turbo car.

Buy your own wideband, and injectors. do the work yourself. You will find no lack of help here.

Feel better now? ^^^^^ thumbsup. The 4g63 is a great car and a great engine, however I think there is something much more to be said, and much respectable, about taking a car like the 420a and making it fast. As mentioned, a blind monkey can make a 4g63 fast.
