Questions :

1. Is there a turbo/turbos that will bolt-on to the 2.0 non-turbo engine? If so where can i find a price/part guideline...

2. will the turbo engine fit in the non-turbo car, what mods are neccessary to do so, (engine mounts? tranny?) etc.

Thanks for any help,
jamez

thanks, i did a search for "turbo in 2.0" and came up with thousands of results and none of the first few seemed to have anything to do with it...

Ok what ive found out so far...

1. swapping engines is a bad idea
2. there are 2 turbo choices for the 2.0 - hahn's and star

im leaving work so im out of time to read...

i thought the whole point of these forums is to ask questions and discuss things, just b/c this stuff was discussed back in 2002 does that mean i should read through 300 posts to find a couple answers?

if anyone has the know and doesnt mind posting it...

1. wich models/engines are the ones with the crank walk

2. how strong is the 2.0 engine, how much boost/HP can it handle with the stock internals.

3. besides the hahns and star are there other bolt on turbos, and out of the ones avail. which performs best and is most reliable.

4. i have a 2.0 with 130,000 miles on it, would it be more practical to have the engine rebuilt or do a swap with another 2.0 from japan.

Thanks

1.- Crank walk is only found to happen on 2nd gen, 4g63 engines, which were factory turbocharged. We use the Chrysler motor, wich is all non turbo from the factory.

2.- The 420A motor is pretty damn strong, but the weakest links are first the pistons, then the rods. For safe boost limits on stock internals, I would not push much more than 250 HP, or for a Hahn kit S16G turbo, no more than 8 psi, or a Star kit turbo, no more than 7-8psi.

3.-besides Hahn and Star, the only other route to take would be to put together your own custom setup. S16G and T3/T4 turbos are very popular for these motors, make good street power, and spool up pretty quick. You can use almost any small/medium sized turbo from any car really, but finding a exhaust manifold to fit the turbo is the hard part. This is where it becomes more custom..

4.- unless you have gobs of time and money, don't bother swapping in any other motor than the 420A, or the 2.4 chrysler motor...Do more searching, you will find every single answer as to why you dont want to swap in a turbo Mitsu 4g63 motor..

Do more searching, and do more reading. You would be very surprised how much you can learn just by going back through old topics, esp ones that have been discussed on more than one occasion..

thanx extreme.. you gotta be the nicest guy on this thing so far.

a few more :)

1. from reading in the past wasnt it either 6-bolt or 7-bolt mits. engines that had crank walk not "all" of them...? just curiousity..

2. i found the site for hahns but havent seen one for the star turbos.. anyone have a quick link :)

3. are there any sites that are specifically for eclipse/this 2.0 liter engine that show different turbos likes the t3/t4 you mentioned. I honestly know a little about internals but very little about turbos (i took apart a 2nd gen ford escort engine) and superchargers... are there any superchargers for this engine as well? (yes i read the supercharger topic and there none at the time)

4. im assuming the 2.0 is a 420A?

5. sorry for all the questions, i spent over a year working on a 94 escort (port and polish everything, bored cylinders, reinforced rods, gude cam, etc)... so this engine is a little new to me :)

i know theres a million sites about turbos but is there one or in specific for beginners where i can just learn about all the different components, etc.

Thanks
jamez

7 bolts from 95 up turbo models (4g63) are the most likely to walk. 7 bolts from 92.5 are less likely to walk, but more likely than 6 bolts from 90-92.5. However, even 6 bolts have walked. On another note, I have NEVER heard of a 420a walking. Never. Now, spun bearings due to oil starvation or blown headgaskets (or cranked ringlands from overboosting). Well, that's another story.

STAR doesn't have a site specific to their brand. However, a lot of people have been goign through importparts.com to buy them, as they seem to be both priced well and reliable.

http://www.importparts.com/shop/index.php?osCsid=698aab721893475804c0801c6898053d&manufacturers_id=46&osCsid=698aab721893475804c0801c6898053d

Don't just buy one from anyone as people have been scammed before on STAR kits.

Nope, no superchargers for our car unless your're a fabricator and can modify a supercharger to work with our cars. It's possible, but due to the overwhelming popularity and inherent advantages to turbocharging over supercharging, people have decided not to travel the path of no fruit.

THIS SITE is specific as you will ever find for the 420a non turbo eclipse engine. Different turbos? Well, you can read about different turbos all over the web. Most people here use the Super 16g turbo that's described at hahnracecraft.com or the T03/04e turbos with STAR. The latter turbo's as popular as a turbo gets though and you can read about that one anywhere and everywhere that talks abotu boosting 4 cylinder engines.

Yep, the 2.0 is the 420a (Chrysler made engine). That's the same lower block you'll find in any non-turbo neon. We have basically the same heads, but oriented in the opposite flow direction.

The engine and crankshaft can throw probably as much HP as you could ever throw at it. No one here has ever met that threshold. HRC has taken it past 500HP without failure. Just change out the rods and pistons, and you're golden.

You'll only find the entire 420a in the 95-99 eclipse/talons/avengers and sebrings. Neon guys sometimes don't liek their engines referred to as the 420a as they have different heads and OHC options.

To learn about turbos, you can read about them in a great book written by Corky Bell call "Maximum Boost", or something like that. Howstuffworks.com is also a fantastic beginner reader.

I don't mind being the asshole here. Why should we have to do the work for you, and waste our time to give you answers that are readily available at the click of the SEARCH link? We're not here to wait on you. We're here to help, but we're regular people too and have better things to do than answer the same 5 questions day in and day out because new members are too lazy to do their own research.

You have to help yourself in order for us to help you.

How do you expect us to advance is all we do is discuss the same damn questions over and over? it doesn't work that way. Answer a question a few hundred times, consider it closed and searchable material and move on to the next big thing.

Every single question you asked you could have found answers for had you just invested the time and patience to look it up yourself.

I had those exact same questions years ago when I first got my car, searched and found the answers, and that was years ago.

You seem to still be confusing our 2.0 420As with 4G63, both are 2.0 Liter Dual Over Head Cammed engines, 4G63s are reffered to as both 6 and 7 bolts, our engine however is an 8 bolt.

SEARCH, then ask, its easy!

in case you missed the overall big picture: SEARCH, then search some more. change the terms. use the advanced search. choose "subject only". we are all eager to help, but the info IS IN there!

i understand these questions have been asked and discussed before.. however..

1. i spent over 2 hours reading turbo/supercharger threads filled with replies and i didnt find questions to my answers.

2. i used the search link and it brought up thousands of non related results...

3. theres not going to be 20 new things to talk about one car everyday ... the same questions are going to be asked all the time.. if nobody asked anything that had been asked in the last 3 or 4 years or however long there would never be any new posts..

4. if you dont want to answer nobodys forcing you. you saw the topic of the post and you could have easily skipped right over it, you choose to come here and post a reply.

3. You have got to be the most annoying honest to god stupidest fucking noob I have ever seen on this forum.

ehh this thread has gone far enough..most of your questions were answered on this topic, and no more good can come out of this. I highly suggest you read through as many threads as you can here. There is TONS of good info just waiting to be read..not just given.
