70874, N-tercooler Sprayer info

Hey all. Was reading up on previous posts about the NX n-tercooler setup. Seems pretty effective, and for those of us who would like to say they have nitrous but dont wanna kill their motor (especially if its already experiencing boost) it seems like a good route to go. My only concern is turbo spiking. I talked to an STi owner w/ the setup and he loves it, but he said it does make his turbo spike a few psi. Not a big deal for him but for us 420a'ers it could mean serious problems since our motor cant take that much boost. Just wanted to get some opinions on it, whether or not any of u have it and if it makes ur turbo spike. I'd like to get it but if its just too risky then its probably not worth it.

Try the search fuction since we have discussed the risk vs benefits before.

god damn u people are annoying when u respond like that. I did search and i read up on it but i wanted to know if any of you actually had the setup and if it actually made ur turbo spike and if so how much?

i dont think it would make the "turbo" spike per-se.. I mean all you're doing is momentarily making the air denser... whenever you do that, you need to add more fuel if you actually want to make more power...

in my humble opinion... you should save your money + upgrade fuel system/turbocharger/get some gauges... Nothing speaks louder than actually having POWER... (not just.. OMG NAWZZZZZZZZ!!!)

for fuck's sake.. search.

if you did search, then youd know not to bother asking questions because its too risky and overall pointless thing to do.

read what you just said...........

"RISKY" to post a question???

Why should newbs live in FEAR of posting something wrong/something thats already been covered? you were a noob at one point, and you most definitely did the same thing hes doing at least once or twice...

The sprayer def works to lower your intake air temps, but I have never heard of it causing spiking issues..thats interesting. Only thing I can think of is that the colder charge to the motor is causing the boost to raise faster for some reason, and the wastegate boost controller can't react fast enough..just a random thought..But also, like said above, this is something that needs fuel compensation for, and I think would only be really useful for track only purposes, and used all the time. If you really want to lower your intake temps, get a more efficient intercooler..thats the best way out of it..And people, be nice :)

sorry bro. we can be asses, i know. sometimes im one of the biggest ones. but we get an ass load of noobs (to the sight) who ask questions that have been answered 72.4 bazziliondy million times. you gota just play with te search and experiement with the different functions. goto advanced search and try it again. use just intercooler instead of the brand name.

this is what i got:

sorry , but like mentioned above this has been answered by people that have used it. Also like mentioned above its useless, especially for our cars. Unless you have some sort of standalone that can compensate for the denser air charge it will cause you to run lean. If you tunr and compensate for that? Then at the times you are not using it you will run Rich. Get the point?

For myself Imgoing with something that will cool the heat caused by the boost but not do it to the point of causing serious tunning issues. Something like a watter sprayer set up.

I know but im not some newb who doesnt search before they post. My specific question was whether or not any of you had SPIKING problems with it, not what u thought about it. It did not mention anything about spiking in any of the posts, hence why i posted. Just because a topic has been discussed on the board before doesnt mean every single thing about it was answered. Please read my posts more carefully for anyone who calls me a newb and telling me to search. Im sick and tired of fighting with people telling me to search after every post i make. If any of you find 'spiking' discussed in any other posts then u can tell me to search all you want. All im asking for is for someone who HAS the setup to leave feedback about it and whether or not they experience spiking problems. Why do we all have to be such assholes to each other? We're all DSM owners, so lose the attitudes, please....

BTW thank you GHETTORAID for giving me input, thats all i asked for. And as for you siueclipse, i did read the posts and there was actually a member or two that got 28whp out of it. Whether or not you think its worth it is your opinion, so chill out.

whoa calm down, I hope I didnt sound harsh.

what I was saying is that the spiking is a boost leak or management. Like I said factory turbos have built in systems to regulate that.

no you didnt, and i didnt mean to either. Im just tired of people that are so quick to yell at people and call them newbs and tell them to search when they dont even fully read the post.

the only problem is that you were asking a smaller "specific question" about a larger genreal issue that isn't favored/dosen't work. You cant expect someone to tell you what they think of a superchager belt squeack on the 420a, when there aint any working (although attempted) SC'ed 420a's.

understandable, and after reading about it through the search i never did really plan on buying it, but i was just curious if anyone had it and if they had spiking issues.

bah.. they are just asses trying to cover their asses.. :thumbsup hehe.

now if I remember this setup right.. it sprays N2O into the outside of the intercooler to cool it down (like a water sprayer)... So I can see how that could possibly cause a boost spike if it cooled down the air significantly very fast..
Maybe you'd be better off with a water sprayer.. cheaper to refil too :)

i don't see the intercooler sprayer as a huge power gain but rather a supporting mod. I've been looking into this and have found that co2 is much more useful for spraying on the outside of the intercooler. It is colder and a whole hell of a lot cheaper. The mod would help more w/ heat soaking issues that just an all out power gain.

but that still doesn't address the issue of the extra fuel that would be needed to compensate for the ultra dense air that it creates.

here is a thought.. when the air cools down drastically.. it can't actually become much denser because it's in a sealed environment.. it'll actually just lower in preasure as it becomes that much cooler.. lowering the boost preasure.. but then the wastegate will shut off.. the turbo will pump like mad.. possibly going way past it's efficency.. hmm.. this could be bad.. no?
just a thought i had.

I was only stating my opinion on the usefulness of the setup. My suggestion would be to datalog the car w/ and w/o the sprayer and see how "dramatic" the change is. I'm guessing maybe 10 iat difference. Again I dont think, but don't know, that this causes boost to spike to a huge number. Its probably similar to the change you see when its 20* outside compaired to 60*, 1-2 psi at the most. If your turbo then you should already have the supporting fuel mods to handle a 1-2 psi increase over you current level. If you motors not built then you shouldn't be doing dumb shit like an ic sprayer anyhow unless its used after a run and the car is idling and cooling. For 400-500 that this mod costs i'd recommend a whole lot of other things before it. If your tapped out w/ stuff to do to your car then by all means go for it.
