70532, missing star parts
Posted by MitsuEclipseGS, May-06-04 09:53 PM
i just recently got my star stage 2 kit, and i was wondering if any of the following are supposed to be in the kit...

gasket from the turbo to the downpipe?
boost gauge?
brass fittings (turbo houseing and wastegate)?

i dont know if this stuff is supposed to come with it so, if anyone can tell me if it does, it would be much appreciated.

1) gasket - no, the kit doesnt come with one ... i dont use one for the downpipe (becuz i couldnt find one to work).

2) yes you should have gotten a boost guage. if you need one, ill sell you mine that came with the kit for 20 bucks, its never been used.

3) yes you should have gotten all the fittings and hardware you needed to install.

No gasket is required nor included. FYI, STAR kits as of April no longer come with boost gauges. Your kit, if bought new, should come with all hardware.

I don't see what's so funny. 90% of factory turbo cars don't come with a boost gauge.

He was laughing at the fact that this is considered to be a "kit". Which by all intended purposes should be complete. True most turbo cars from the fact dont come with one. What some Do come with are selonoids and safety features to prevent over boosting or detonation ( timming retard etc.). The problem here is we are not factory turbo cars and we defeat some of the safety precautions should the ecu ever see boost, so how would it know to play it safe? It Doesnt .

just thought I would give my 2 cents.

Exactly. You spend enough money on an all inclusive kit and it doesn't include even a cheap tool to monitor boost? Besides, think of all the ricers and know-nothing's that buy turbo kits. All that work and they don't even get a pretty little guage that bounces around. How does that strike fear into your typical Honda driver? :P IMO, it's a bad idea all around.

I highly disagree with DRAG's decision to stop including a boost gauge in the STAR kits.. even if it is a crap gauge. (which the SPI was.) That's just not a good thing.

I agree here, Dragg made a bad call. It makes no sence to not include the guage with the kit. How do you know if you are getting the proper boost into the engine (ie: big boost leak = overboosting turbo and not realizing you are not at full boost so you destroy your new $3,000 turbo "kit")

I don't like that fact either. We do offer a wide range of boost gauges and may consider offering a free boost gauge with the STAR kits.

That could be a neat marketing scheme. "Free Autometer boost guage with any Star Kit purchased" and you throw some cheap one in.
