69770, What kind of hose do you use for oil return?
Posted by GhEttOrAiD, Apr-24-04 03:04 PM
Well, I popped my hood this morning to check some things out... noticed that I had another bolt back out on the manifold... Not only did it just "back out" but the head SNAPPED OFF altogether, so i picked up a bolt extractor set... Will have to head to satan to get the 4g bolts on Monday.

ANYWAY, in order to remove the turbo, I disconnected everything as normal, no problems... However, the oil return line was literally FUSED onto the turbo, FUSED onto the metal elbow leading back to the oilpan. There was no coaxing it off, so I just used a hot hot knife to push through it. Satisfying, but now I HAVE to replace this hose.

It LOOKS like simple radiator hose, and is all hardened on the fittings like a radiator hose, but I want to be sure! (having oil dump out while im on the freeway would probably be a bad thing)

What should I use? Keep in mind I want to get it running ASAP, the kind of hose I could find at kragen/pep boys... or home depot/OSH?

You can use any hose, but the oil will eventually eat away at it. If it is something temporary you can use like pcv system hose, or transmission cooler hose. Hydraulic hose would work too, but you can't really clamp it.

Yeah the hose thats on there is really shitty looking, probably on its last leg anyway... Kragen/Pep Boys would have that type of hose? What kind of temperatures will it have to be able to withstand?

alright well...all kragen has = heater core hose... This is probably what was there before so it will suffice for now...

unless the dealership has something better

I installed AN fittings and stainless steel braided hoses. -4AN for the oil feed, and -10AN for the oil drain. It may cost more money, but it's a permanent solution.
