69505, You guys with 8 injector setup.

What's up guys. I wanted to know if anyone with 8 injector setup ever dyno tuned your car. Did you have to provide them the software that came with the EIC? I asked this question because I won't have access to a laptop and I will need to tune the car after rebuild. And plus I don't believe anyone around my way know anything about "8 injector setup" or about the EIC. I've asked alot of people and they just give me that "uh! 8 injectors!". So give me some advices so I can be ready when the time comes. And oh yeah, I've never been to the dyno so I don't know how the procedure goes. Thanks

You need to get a laptop. Theres no way around it. Without one, you'll have no way of programming the controller(tuning the car).

When I went to the dyno it went kind of like: The guy straped my car down but I got in and drove. The monitor was on a pull cart right next to the drivers window and the guy just explains how to "drive" on the machine. Basically you run through 1st then second, then in 3rd you give the guy the "high sign" and he presses a button to start recording - then you nail it. After you run it out, then you clutch in and let the car stop. You both analyse the dyno run...look at the a/f and see how much power you got. If you need to adjust the fuel - do it. Then you make another run. Keep making runs till you're happy with what the dyno is tellin you. Then the guy unstraps your car and off you go. My guy emailed me my dyno runs, which I can analyse all I want to from home in a viewer from DynoJet.

But when it comes right down to it - someone will have to make the decisions on tuning it. If the guy doesn't know anything about your particular fuel/turbo systems, then you'll most likely be the guy making the decisions.

First things first though - get a laptop.

I bought a 100mhz laptop for $40. It doesnt take much computer to manipulate the EIC software.

yup you need a labtop to do your tuning. I used my labtop with the eic while we dyno/tuned my car. The dyno guy was checking out the wideband afr, boost, and egt while i worked my magic on the labtop in the car while dyno/tuning.

what software should be on the laptop?

Very simple software that does not require a hardcore setup.

like everyone said, if its just for tunning and laptop will do ( well almost).

If everyone wants I can look into some old toshiba laptops with a pentium 2(paybe one) for a good price.

Ill look into it, I might be able to get them for 50.

I tested one for shits and giggles with the logger software and with the EIC, it worked better then my Pentium3. So Im getting one and just leaving it in the car.

Not to change the subject but what else do you need with the laptop to tune. The program and the wire? Also where do you get them? i already have the laptop.

I suppose if you got really desperate, then you *could* drag along your desktop computer, and do it that way, but that is some what ghetto haha..All you need is the 034 software, and a DB9 serial cable, male on one end, female on the other. If your laptop does not have a serial port, you will need a serial-usb adapter. I use a Belkin adapter, and it works fine with XP. But you do have to have the latest software drivers for the adapter, and be sure to set it's port to COM 1 for it to work. Thats really all you need. Most dyno's I've been involved with, don't let you run the car, they do, but I guess that varies from shop to shop. Ideally, you want to tune it in 4th gear for manual, and 3rd for auto. NA setups are better tuned for 3rd gear, as you wont see much of 4th at a track. I like to tune it just a tad rich at 4th gear, which lets me know i will have enough fuel for 5th gear at WOT should I ever want to crack it open for some "highway adventures" hehe..Remember, a higher gear presents a higher load on the motor, which needs more fuel..The majority of turbo guys who use a wideband o2, have reported that an A/F of *around* 11.5:1 is a good place to start, esp if running 15+ psi. Be SURE to use the highest octane fuel available. Racegas if its a track setup, and 92/93 pump for street setup.

This is the website to purchase and find more info on the 034:

Software is on there also
