Ok, Ive heard arguments that theyre junk and dont flow, but Ive also heard that theyre pretty good.
Ive got a 16G turbo that im gonna run at somewhere around 16psi. Will the starion cool good enough?
Anyone with the FMIC what boost pressures are you running?
Ive already got a starion fmic. Im going to modify the end tanks and put on 2.5" inlet and outlets. Im a machinist so doing the welding/fab. isnt a big deal.
Is it worth the hassle or is the IC worthless? Ive obviously got the 1G stock SMIC now.

Never used the starion, but from what others who have usded it, and also what info I can gather, is that the 1st gen SMIC is almost just as efficient as the Starion FMIC. Both start getting heat soaked at *around* 12-13 psi with a 16G. I ran 12 psi on the 1st gen SMIC for a long time, and intake temps when warm out, were in the 150's..def getting heat soaked. The core area of the Starion is larger obviously, so I would think its a *small* step up from the 1st gen side mount, but not much..IMO, save up the cash, and get the HRC universal FMIC..its only around 400 bucks, and since you can make your own piping, ect, it may be the best way to go. They claim it can flow/cool about 500-600 HP worth..I use it now, and its sweet..its pretty darn big

400 bucks for existing Hahn owners or for all that want that fmic? i would be interested in a better fmic than my star one if its only 400, is this right?

JayC used to run a custom t3 setup w/ a starion, he had to have the fmic fab'd b/c of the crazy inlet/outlet configuration. Probably cost him 75-100 bucks from a machine shop. If you know someone who can weld you could have a decent fmic for relatively cheap. For upto 15psi i'd say you'd be ok with it, just don't expect it to last long w/o heatsoaking.

there you go. same core, just the tanks are slightly different, but you can't see that from the outside anyway.

In your pics you have a side to side flow. I assume b/c this is the universal fmic. Is the normal one, seen here

still a top to bottom design? I'd like to keep the location of my Star piping just upgrade to the larger core. At 399 thats a steal. Does the piping take out the fog lights?

Yeah, thats the one made for the 2g's. And yes, the Universal FMIC will take out your fogs if you have them. The oultet pipes of the IC are directly in the way of the fogs..My RS didn't have fog lights, so that was no issue for me. Also, you need to do a good sharp bend out of the IC, or else it will hit the side of those small air inlets next to each fog opening in the bumper. If you look at the piping in my pics, if the pipes come out any more than that, it will hit the side of those air openings. Just for info.. In this pic, you can see the red part of the piping in the fog openings, just to give an idea of where the pipes are in the bumper. You can see it through the mesh there..
