69096, Going 2.4, selling my motor, manifold and turbo...
Posted by MrSlick, Apr-15-04 07:39 AM
So I've finally made the decision to go with a 2.4 setup, and a new manifold and turbo... ;)

So now I'm going to sell my current motor complete with the manifold and turbo... but the question is what's a fair price?

I'll probably put it on ebay, but I want a fair Buy It Now price to give someone a good deal if they want it right away. here's the specs.

420A 2.0 Liter
Stock Bore Wiseco custom 8.5:1 pistons
Hastings rings
Stock rods
Stock head and cams
MLS headgasket
Clevitte 77 rod bearings
Goodyear Timing belt
Custom turbo manifold
Mitsubishi Big 16G turbo - Rebuilt with only 500 miles on it.
Custom down pipe/O2 housing to enable use of totally stock downpipe.

This would make a very nice drop in setup for someone.
Out of a 99 car. I checked and I actually have arouns 10,000 miles on the motor since it was built. I thought it was more but it wasn't. Motor was run at 19psi daily with no problems.

Compression on each cylinder is 170 psi I believe.

I was thinking of asking somewhere around 2000 - 2200. That would be for everything, but not including the alternator, power steering pump or the a/c pump.

What does everyone think?

Well I was running 19psi with a Big 16G so you figure... gotta be somewhere in the 350 HP region...

doubtful. perfectly tuned you'll see 320-330 at the most at 19spi. suieclipse guy made 349 at 19psi w/ a 20g. his car is pretty much perfectly tuned w/ a wideband setup and logger. i can count on one hand the number of dyno graphs from a 16g that made over 320whp. expecially w/ your low compression. This is not to say his motor isn't well built and isn't running really well, i just think that numbers on the high side and wanted to raise the bs flag

I was talking crank hp, and I said around...

I dont know about 350 on a well tuned 20g. Hahn's webpage claims 475 with a 20g and that sounds a little closer to the capabilites of a 20g.

when i was selling my motor + tranny for a brief minute, i sold it for $3250 + shipping + their stock motor + their stock tranny

they guy is still looking for another motor and tranny since im not selling mine right now. if youd like to email me, ill hook you guys up together so you can sell your shit.

james@antsmarching.org

btw.. 349whp on 19-21 lbs of boost with a 20g. hahn is either using a fucked dyno or is exagerating.

edit.. also.. id watch out for the 2.4. a few peopel on here are having a hell of a time tuning it for some reason.

Well, if you would run 30 psi on a S20G, you would be very close to 475 CRANK HP. If he made 349 at 19 psi, then that is *somewhere* around 390 Crank HP. 10-11 more pounds of boost can get you almost a 80+ more HP if tuned well..

2.4 is the way to go
nothing could replace displacement :)

and now we could even built them for cheap too !

Well the motor will be on ebay here shortly, so if anyone wants it bid away...

IT's a shame to say good bye to this motor... it's been real sweat to me... but I've had my heart set on 2.4 for a long time now...

And tuning will be a piece of cake, I have Megasquirt in total control of my fuel remember... and I may well have the spark under it's control soon also.

Just so ya'll know I'm going 2.4 with a 20g more than likelly... now that should be special...

You guys and your older turbos, try a hybrid. How do you think these guys with 4gs make more HP, not using such an outdated turbo. I agree its good but I would go bigger IMO Esp. with all the displacement.

How you like that 2.4 valve cover than Alain?
Looking good man.

Well she's on ebay:

Let's see how she does. ;)
69153, RE: Going 2.4, selling my motor, manifold and turbo...
Posted by alain95i4, Apr-15-04 06:23 PM
the 2.4 cover fit on the 420a head but there's an offset with the placement of the 4 spark plug wells and also the 2 center bolts
the offset is around 1/4 of an inch I will add some silicone inside the valve cover for extra seal around the plugs just to be sure

on my cover I filled the 2 bolt holes in the center because I can't use them anyway

I like the oil baffle inside the valve cover it's a better cover than the 420a
and putting a 2.0 cover would be lying :)

just saw your auction

PUT A RESERVE PRICE PLEASE for your own protection

without it , if the auction doesn't catch on, somebody could buy your engine at the last seconds for only a few hundreds of $

Hehehehe Alain its all about being 2.4 Undercover :)

BTW the reason i beleive we are not acheiving our power goals is we are limiting ourselves to bandaid fixes for fuel/air mixtures in the most part...And if you now check out DsmTimes.org you realize the fastest time without N20 was using a FP3065...its the way of the future boys

Now Bill Hahn's times (the 10.871 pass) was acheived using N20, and Dog gonit look at his 60' Times! its allmost comparable to the 60' of the 11th on the awd list...talk about skill

Back to valve covers....Now if the 2.4 one fits...wouldent the SRT-4 type cover fit too (says 2.4 AND turbo :) )??

You are right about the fuel systems limiting power. And you also have to realise that my fuel system is NOT band-aided. With the Megasquirt I have complete control. And this is also why I say I'm probably near 350 Crank HP. For sure over 300.
I did want to dyno the motor, but never got round to finding one near me... haha.
I'll leave it till the 2.4 is here!

no it doesn't
the srt-4 cover doesn't even fit properly on the older 2.4
the third oil passage and a different shape near cylinder 4

Ultra Wide Band will be here by the end of the summer too...

hey alain are u going to have power steering on your car? I havent done anything for my mine yet. Im trying to fit the 2.0 acc bracket on the block. I also have the PT power steering bracket that needs alittle modifying to work. I wish I could just buy these things, cause I hate making them from scratch!!!:wallbash

Yes Power steering all the way!
I found a solution
I'm buying an SRT-4 engine mount
the power steering bracket is built right on the engine mount and will be easy to adapt to the DSM style mount
Maybe i will have to swap the pump for a Neon second generation one
I will see when I get it in the next 2 weeks
