68952, Super 16g Posted by 95redesi, Apr-13-04 02:10 PM
Getting ready to buy a 16g from hahn.... So far i have the intercooler ( 2g side mount ) and 1g bov, after i get the turbo .. Im ordering the manifold... then what esle do i need .. will i need a diff ecu ? I know i need the custom piping and installation hassle and time... Just make a list of all the small things that count list. Or does hahn make a kit that has all the hoses and fittings.. Either way i still have a couple weeks until i order... Also what is there customer service like and the reliability of their products?

Both, Sfmu for fuel management and missing link for fuel cut problems. No, you do not need a different ecu. Hahn makes a oil line kit for oil return and oil feed that comes with everything you need for that. Also the super 16g from Hahn is a universal super 16g so you may have to clock the turbo a different way to run your ic piping.

You can get the Vortech S-FMU off ebay or buy them from vortechsuperchargers.com for $307. And you can buy the missing link from group5motorsports.com for $55. That is where i got my stuff from, they are brand new and you will not have any problems. There are write-ups on how to install the vortech sfmu in the mods section(i believe) and it is step by step so that should not be a problem.

Just don't do it again. lol :P
Be careful when ordering the Missing Link and make sure you get the correct one for our motor...which is the Type003 model.

You don't need the missing link. Your car is a 95.

something about their fuel setup being different from the 96-99's i believe.

I'd recommend the Evo3 16g, its a better alternative to the super 16. Forced performance sells them relatively cheap, or I could order you one through dsmparts.com and save you some dough. Something to think about.

why is it a better alternative? just curious.

.. yes . why is it better and how much could you save me ? I have a stock side mount so which way should i have the inlet pipe facing ?

Flows more than a super 16 and has less lag. sounds like a clear choice to me. if i were buying a 16 thats the one i would get . your looking mid 500 range for the turbo brand new. if your interested after you research the issue pm me and i'll get you a price shipped

this may be a stupid question but would the big 16g bolt to an hrc manifold or would i need to get a custom one made?

Well, the 97-99's do have a return fuel line, but its back by the fuel filter, and the fuel pressure regulator is connected to the fuel filter outlet. On the 95's/some 96's, the fuel filter is on the firewall, and the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail itself, which means it has it's return line already going back to the tank. Both cars have a stock return line, its just that if your stock FPR is in the back, then your return line is in the back, vise versa. When you get a rising rate FPR, you normally do away with the stock FPR, and since it's not a really good idea to put the SFMU back by the fuel filter under the car, you put it in the engine bay, and run your own fuel return line.

same flange as a 16g. it is very similar to the super but an improved design

ok so i could definately use it with an hrc mani. how much could you get one for?

69221, RE: Super 16g Posted by Dave41079, Apr-16-04 07:24 PM
First of all I have no idea what a MAP sensor has to do with having a fuel return line. A missing link has nothing to do with fuel...at all. I don't know why a 95 wouldn't need one, but that's definitely not the reason, as they are completely unrelated. Buschur sells Evo3 16Gs for $535 I think. I'll be buying one in the next couple of weeks.

69223, RE: Super 16g Posted by 95redesi, Apr-16-04 08:28 PM
if you can get me a evo 3 for less than 535 then lets do it ... so far i have 433 .. im so close... being 16 and getting paid everyother week sucks...

Obviously I missed the part where the MAP sensor is connected to the fuel return line. I swear I thought it was that nifty little thing on the end of the intake manifold. And I'm pretty fairly certain the missing link goes between the MAP and intake mani. I could be wrong here, and please correct me if I am. I was under the impression that it's whole purpose was to keep the MAP sensor from seeing over 4.7v so that you won't hit fuel cut. Now if you can explain how that differs from a 95 fuel system and the 96-99, I would love to hear it.

69233, RE: Super 16g Posted by MetalJim, Apr-17-04 12:04 AM
It has to do with the ECU. The 95 ECUs don't cut fuel, like the later ones, when the MAP sensor sees boost. It's been discussed a few times. Here's one of the threads I remember reading about it. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=8&topic_id=51473&mesg_id=51473&listing_type=search
You could probably come up with a few more if you search for "95 fuel cut ML" or "95 missing link" or something like that.

69270, RE: Super 16g Posted by The1Bill, Apr-17-04 06:38 PM
This thread hurts my brain. The Missing link is a check valve that stops positive pressure from seeing the MAP sensor. The difference is that the '95 ECU doesn't care if it sees boost. The '96+, on the other hand, will cut fuel and pop a MIL if it sees above 14.7 PSI (1 ATM, O mm/hg of vacuum).
The fuel system in the '95 HAPPENS to have a regulator on the end of the fuel rail, and a return line from the engine bay. This has nothing to do with the missing link.
Now, for the turbo setup... The S16G that is intended (by HRC) for use on a 420a uses a Garret exhaust housing. The Evo 16G uses a Mitsu flange. I don't believe that the Evo 16G will bolt to the garret flange on the HRC mani. I think that your best bet is to sent an E-mail to Alain95I4 on this forum. He makes really nice manifolds and stands by his products.

My point exactly. Good info by the way, I didn't even think about the Hahn S16G having a Garrett exhaust housing. I'm getting a custom manifold anyways, and making my own downpipe, but good info nonetheless.
