68735, Nitrous Express N-Intercooler kit or no? Whats your opinion?
Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Apr-09-04 01:09 PM
I have the star stage 2 turbo kit with FMIC and was thinking about getting the Nitrous Express n-tercooler kit to fog the intercooler and keep it super cool for a little power gain when used. My thing is that i am running on the stock bottom end and i do not want to blow the motor. i will be running 7psi so i dont blow it for sure. i just have the watsegate hose connected to teh side of the turbo just so i never go over 7psi unless i spike a lb or so. i know that the CO2 just sprays on the intercooler so i dont think i would blow the motor since no co2 or nitrous is getting into the motor ... just alot of colder air .... do you guys think i would be ok without blowing the motor and i should have nothing to worry about? thanks guys. cant wait to hear from ya!

According to suieclipse, it leans you out in our set up since colder denser air from the kit without the proper increase in fuel.

so it will lean it out because of the colder air?? i have heard good things about the kit about the little increase in power when used i just want to make im not going to blow the motor. you feel me. please help me out on my decision. thanks and please keep responding!

All I know is that when suieclipse, the dude who has a 347 whp 420a hrc boosted eclipse, use that, he noticed that his motor was dangerously lean because of it. Now, your stage 2, meaning you don't have a built engine. You really can't expect to squeeze soo much horsepower on a stock motor that was build for NA applications, and 140 hp and expect the motor to hold. You asking way too much.

really i am not asking too much because i mean it is just frosting the intercooler and making air induction colder. its not putting nitrous into the motor. i mean people are saying it could be good for the turbo and some people are saying not to. what to do what to do!?!?

the whole reason you want a cooler intake charge is because more air can be forced into the combustion chamber. the cooler the air, the more dense it is, the more can be fit into the chamber. this is why we spend big bucks on CAI's, FMIC's, insulation...yadda yadda yadda that makes our intake charge cooler. now, you go spraying cO2 into your IC youll cool the air, the turbo can further compress it...and more air will be added and therefore more HP. you say its not like nitrous..but it is. while your not spraying something into your engine...its the same basic principal. do you even know how nitrous oxide even works? it sounds to me like you dont. its not some magic gas that adds power. its an oxygenator (sp?). it is nothing but concentrated oxygen, which is needed for a good burn. therefore adding more oxygen + more fuel = more horsepower. its not magic...its physics and chemistry. the same basic thing happens with the N-tercoolers. instead of using super concentrated oxygen gas to provide more HP, it aid's the turbocharger in shoving more air into the chamber. with a turbo/n-tercooler it dosent oxygenate the charge...it just adds a larger volume of air then a NA application...therefore with that added air comes added oxygen naturally. spraying your IC will be just like adding nitrous or cranking up the boost. you should really try listning to members here...especially like jsupetran was trying to do. you came on and asked for an answer...he gave it to you. the members here arent exactly morons ya know...but like he said...go ahead and strap it on...then youll find out for sure

EDIT: and why are you gonna use an n-tercooler sprayer if your only running 7lbs? you said for a "little increase" but you dont want to blow your bottom end. if you want a "little increase" then turn up the boost a couple lbs. IC sprayers are made for people running double digit boost...like 15+ lbs. talk to vegasdsmer.....he has an srt-4 with IC...but i wanna say he's running 15+ lbs. if you want power than take advantage of your turbo. there is no point in spending 4-600$ on something that you cant really utilize. if your worried about blowing the bottom end out...i suggesting putting that 4-600 somewhere usefull...like in a rebuild kit...which you can actually use.

The best god damn answer I've seen in the longest time.

Definately. Might wanna throw this in TWSB for people's future reference (y'know, as if anyone actually reads those threads ;p).

It sounds like the only answer he was looking for was to go ahead and do it. It seems to me like he had his mind made up even before he asked the question. If you do go ahead and blow your money on it, watch your gauges carefully when you use it.

just dont do it.. all it does is lean your system out. so.. your running leaner.. what are you doing to do? richen up! then whats going to happen? when you aren't running the fogger, youll run even richer!

basically its not worth doing.

Theres this company selling in-line intercoolers which use liquid Co2... (doesnt just spray on the existing IC) I would much rather try this... But i guess you'd still have the lean issue
