68457, HRC Stage III almost complete....
Posted by techboy, Apr-05-04 07:33 AM
I'm finally getting much closer to having my car back on the road. The Stage III is almost ready to rock. I finished getting the head back on the rebuilt short block this past weekend. It's been timed, and all the cam gears have been torqued to spec. Every gasket in the engine has been replaced, not bad for an engine that only had 40k on it. :evilgrin

In the meantime I've completed P&P the intake mani - upper and lower. I repainted and clear coated the fuel rail. I got my new injectors in. I had the valve cover, and all my intercooler piping powder coated, which I posted about earlier (came out beautiful). I wrapped all my exhaust piping in thermal wrap. Done a few custom things here and there. And ... this past weekend built my ClutchMaster Stage IV clutch. I used the stock flywheel, drilled out the rivets on a drill press, had it resurfaced, taped it, and reassembled it with 3/8-#20 machine screws. Another work of art. I plan on putting up a "how-to" post in the manual tranny section in the near future for those of you that want to try this.

So, I'm just waiting on my Retrofit LSD so I can put my tranny back together and I've a whole new car with a lot more boost :thumbsup. Can't wait .....

How did you get stage 3. I emailed them about a stage 4 and they said they will only sell up to stage 2.

Hahns is fucking gay. I wanted to purchase a turbo kit and the works for a rebuilt engine, but they wouldnt give me the time of day. FUCKERS! It is true that they only sell up to stage 2, 3 will be available "this summer." Upgrading componts yourself makes the stages increase. I got a STAR stage 1, upgraded to a whole lot of goodles to make it a stage 3...
Did i mention that hahns are motherfuckers?

Already tried it! I have been using a stock pressure plate and flywheel that was a modular unit, had a custom 4 puck ceramic disk made up, then drilled out rivits, and used bolts..I didn't tap the flywheel though, just nuts and bolts. Works great..Good work on your progress though..Fun stuff isn't it? :)

Do you want ironic XtremeRS? - I got the idea from you! - I did a search a few weeks back in the manual tranny forum and came across a couple of posts by you about this. So figured I'd go about it my own way .... I want to do a write with all the drill sizes, speeds, tap threads, and everything I used just to help other guys - if it already exists, let me know. See fellas - the search button does work :)

I didn't mean to mislead anyone by the title, I have a base Stage II HRC turbo kit, everything beyond that I've done myself, short block, head, fuel system, etc ... it's only a stage III by the custom route. I'm sure they exist, but I don't know anyone with a pure "HRC Stage III" kit.

Anyway, I'm so pumped, I can't wait to drive this thing - provided it all works .....:shrug

Awesome man! Glad to hear its almost done!! As far as the head, did you rebuild the head at all? Cams? Valves? Lifters? Or your running just the stock head? I am very anxious to see the results of the car on 15 psi. I'd like to see the difference with my car when I get my Precision turbo on and your car. BTW you still owe me a ride... ;)

Yeah Geo - I've owed you a ride for a about a year now. Someday, hopefully sooner than later. Just need my Retrofit to get back and then I can drop the engine back in. Got a bit of electrical work to do, but nothing I can't finish before the LSD is here.

I heard you went to the dyno, I was talking to Erik, what'd ya pull?

Yeah, the dyno was fun, I pulled 206AWHP from an all wheel dyno. It was fun but I was amazed that my buddies STOCK GSX pulled out 163 awhp. So I guess thats an improvment considering his was about 50 whp lower.

Huh, I always thought the GSX's stock pulled about 160-170 ATW, so that doesn't really surprise me too much. What do you think you are pulling the crank?

Well, I hope atleast 270ish, I know there is a 29 percent drive trane loss. I am doing all possible to try and get some of that back.

You'll get me off the line with 4 wheel drive, but it should be fun after that ...:afro
