I just wanted to update everyone here as well as on my website for those that have been following. I just talked with my machine shop today and they told me that my mic was supposed to be at a 3 and i was at a 5 ? (make sense???) so i could use JE 8.8:1 .20 over still but they would be really loose.... He said it wouldn't hurt to bore so they are calling JE to find out if they make them .30 over... if they don't we are going to .40 over.

They didn't find anything else wrong with the block they said they were going to check the barings and re-use them i told them just to go ahead and replace them.


I just got a better description about what went wrong.... He said that the pistons do NOT show signs of overheating.. they show signs of grabbing the wall... he's concerned i wasn't getting oil under heavy load.

I read what was wrong man, that sucks... If I were you I would buy all new bearings and go with the .40, I know thats alot bigger but its your safest bet. Did you take it to a shaddy ass machine shop before is that what some of the problem was?

Sounds more like you had way too much bore clearance and they were grabbing the walla when they'd rock at TDC.

Are you going to speak with the previous machine shop and see what they can do to compensate you? If this new machine shop is knowledgeable and knows that the clearence was off and that caused you to ruin a set of JE's, and costing you to have another machine shop to disassemble, machine, reassemble with new parts, then you should definately speak with them to atleast give it a shot to help recoop some of those losses. Side note, did the first shops work come with any kind of guarantee? (btw, did you just have machine work done and you assembled the block? cause if so, you should have checked their work before you assembled it anyway :/ )

If no guarantee, and they say they can't do anything for you when you call, wonder if the new machine shop would explain the issue to them and see if that changes their mind, or if the new shop could tell if they don't know their shit... If they don't know their shit and they still wont give you back some of the money they collected from you, I would file a case in small claims court and handle it that way.

I have talked with the other machine shop the original one that messed up... They assembled the entire long block. They did all the work after verifing my information with the new machine shop they have paid me $1300.00 for the entire build of the motor... They offered to make it right but i just can't trust them... I would rather go with someone that family and a few trust worthy friends have recommended.

I should have the rebuilt motor back sometime this week.
