68101, From good to bad... Posted by MrSlick, Mar-31-04 04:33 PM
Ok, so things were going real good...
I was driving home having way too much fun... nothing like revving the 420A to 8000 RPM!!! Megasquirt rocks... ;)
Well then it turned bad... I could smell gas... uh oh... Stupidly I kept driving... and then started up a mountain on my way home... and the smell got worse... uh oh me is thinking... my balls are gonna get burnt!
Anyway... I pull off at the top of the mountian... pop the hood... and I see gas BOILING off the intake manifold... it seems to be sqquirting out of one of the injector/o-ring areas.... yikes!!!
So I quickly turn the thing off... but then what looks like smoke/steam starts coming from the boiling fuel area... double uh oh... so I'm running round the car looking in the windows for water or something... but I dont see any! Just as I'm about to whip the one eyed trouser snake out to piss on the potential fire I have a brainwave... the collant overflow bottle! So I whip it off and pour the damn thing all over the manifold and head area...lol
Long story short the car was safe... got a buddy to tow me home.
Moral of the story... if you smell gas... STOP!!! And also, your coolant overflow makes a great fire extinguisher!!!
So I guess my fun wull stop till the weekend when I fix my gas leak...
;) I consider this a lucky day for me...

Glad to hear that things are OK and you didnt have to turn your car into a toilet. I am interested in what you have done with the Megasquirt so keep us posted.

fire extinguishers also work well ;). thats why i bought one...because id hate for something to catch my car on fire and not be able to stop it. IMO they arent a rice or "looks" mod, they serve a function. they arent that expensive either....and even tho its not a big deal, they look quite nice. i got an obx one for like $25...polished...looks good. glad to hear the car didnt catch fire.

Yah a fire extinguisher in your car is a great thing to have...you never know when you might save someone from a fire of their car or save your own.....oil ignites good, so does trans fluid if subjected to nice heat :)
BTW make sure you buy a ABC Type (all kinds of fires, solids/liquids, oil/gases) extinguisher and make sure its easy to pull out...2 would be the best but 1 is ok
