what does shaft play actually mean? i know the bushing/bearings are going bad, but does that mean it will leak and burn oil? or its just a little wobble that will get worse with time..... i have a 14b with about 1/8" of play or so....i have some strict emissions and i didnt want to be burning oil....im just not sure what shaft play actually means...thanks doug

Well if your compressor wheel is hitting the housing you have a problem. Flakes of metal will come off and go into your engine. Sometimes turbos leak oil from bad seals, but if your comp wheel is hitting the walls it's time to rebuild.

For a non ball bearing turbo, there should be a decent amount of shaft play..you need it because oil has to take of that small space to lube the bearings. Like said, as long as its not leaking, and the compressor fins are not hitting the turbo, then its fine.
