67961, Update On Solar
Posted by solareclipse98, Mar-30-04 08:57 AM
Ok, as many of you guys suggested I am going to go with a new machine shop. I have just found out that i most likely have a bad ring land in #1.. my compression check came back at 60 140 140 140.

I'm pulling the entire engine on thursday and have it re-ringed new barings and the block cleaned and checked honed etc... i may even get new pistons all together.. im using JEs forged....

But should have the engine back next week.

GOOD CHOICE! Dont ditch the turbo just because the machine shop sucks. Hopefully you will get it right this time and not have to do this bs anymore. Hang in there. I would have said fuck it by now.

best time so far 14.3 @ 101.1mph(no traction)
fastest 2GNT with a hitch! until proven wrong...

re:

I have both I have JE forged pistons and Crower rods.. it's the rings that are shit...

Ok, great news I got a hold of a new machine shop they are going to have my engine back to me by tuesday next week with all new rings, honed block, new cleavit barings, and new pistons if i need one.

they are also going to put in a new head gasket for me and put together the long block... I can tune the bitch i just don't trust myself putting it together.

I will keep everyone updated.

what symptoms told you that you had poor compression in one cylinder/what prompted you to test it

Last october i raced a turbo jetta while racing i felt a pop after that i wasn't sure what was wrong but noticed knocking noise... at first i thought it was my head... so i took the head down they told me i had some bent valves so i had them all replaced with stainless SI valves they are brand new the car has only been started in the garage hasn't even been drivin yet. Never has it gotten over half way on temperature.

So i replaced all the valves and springs... Dino recomended i do a comp test so i did.. and came up low.... I'm going to take the long block to the machine shop to determine the problem and fix it and in the process re-ring put new barings in...

Send it to VT Engines and be done with it. My motor is running strong, barely any piston slap, none at all once it's warm. I beat the hell out of that thing and it just keeps going. They do killer work there and I'll never have to find another machine shop, they do it all and they do it right.
