67400, Tired of the 8 injector setup.
Posted by extreme97nt, Mar-21-04 04:11 PM
OK, I am getting tired of the 8 injector setup. I cannot get it to program correctly and it is driving me insane. ETX mentioned that the e-manage will handle @625cc injectors, allow me to control timing, and clamp map voltage. This would solve all my problems in one shot. Does any one else have knowledge of this? I have heard it will not work with our cars. Are there any other routs to go? I like the accel dfi gen 7 but hahn is taking there sweet time. I just want something that will be easy to tune and not give me shit. Any input is apprecieated.

There are quite a few people using the 034 EIC with great success..You just have to know how to program it right..its not that it doesn't do the job good enough..I would suggest contacting the maker of the 034 and ask him about it, or get hold of the people on here who know exactly how to use it. Its kind of confusing at first, and figuring it out can be a bit time consuming..I can agree to that.

Its not that I dont know how to program. The unit just will not interface with my laptop or other computer for that matter.. Yes I have contacted javad and still no luck. Im just getting tired of it.

Did you try to change the port settings on your laptop?
67421, RE: Tired of the 8 injector setup.
Posted by extreme97nt, Mar-22-04 03:08 AM
Yes I tried all the 4 ports.

The manage can't control an injector that large. it doesn't control timing on our cars.

Why would you have to wait for Hahn to do anything with a DFI Gen 7? As if no one else would sell you one..

Have you checked to see if the EIC was powering on and working?

Meaning, there should be some default settings. I would just want to know, if it's working first. Perhaps you have a defective unit. When I initiall got mine, JAvad inadvertantly sent me the single driver model that he uses for nitrous type setups. Anyways, I would definitely stay on top of Javad, and perhaps get him to send you a new unit if you can verify that the unit is perhaps not powering up, or just now working.

I'm sure these things occasionaly happen.

BTW, I was driving my car hard this weekend, and she runs oh'so sweet. I love not having to worry about fuel.

When all else fails:

Remove EIC from car
find a 12V power source (battery, DC converter, computer power supply)
Using scrap wire, hook the EIC up to power and ground (nothing else)
You can strip the end of the wire and jam it into the EIC connector
Load the EIC software onto another computer (desktop)
Hook up the serial cable and power up the EIC
If you can communicate with the EIC, then you've narrowed down the problem
If you can't communicate, then you can check the cable with a multi-meter for continuity on every pin
If you still can't find a problem, then you may have a bad file in the software (they can become corrupted with failed install attempts)

I've had to do this on several occasions when I was SURE that the EIC was dead. I always ended up finding a problem with my laptop, software, wiring, or cable.

I had some really intresting issues with mine at first too. There were some issues with the way the software is installed on the CPU. Corbin and I had to use a couple different disk sets to get it running. We also had an issue with a dead unit as well. Where exactly is the problem? Will they just not communicate? or do you get limited options? Give me some more info and I will try to help.

when I got the unit a while back it would not let me program it. Javad sent me a file and it fixed it. Now a year later I sold my old laptop and when I tried hooking up my new one it didnt work. It will not communicate. The controller is working fine as far as fuel goes. I just freezes up when trying to communicate. The active light flashes and all the feilds are yellow. I checked that the unit is getting power I will check the cable today. I doubt it is it becaues that would mean both are bad. Javad will not send me a new unit. He wants me to send mine in to check it but I need fuel. I cannot afford to not have it hooked up. I am just getting frustrated.

*Update* I checked the cable and everything was fine... I hardwired the controller and got teh same result. The comp cannot communicate with the controller. When you hit go it pulls up blank yellow grids and freezes. UN less all my computers are fucked up or both cables are bad I think it is safe to say something is wrong wiht he unit.

Well, it sounds to me as if you've almost got it figured out.

Hang in there.

It might just be the cable. I'm sure they do go bad at times. If it doesn't work out, you may rethink your position on sending the unit in. I mean, I know it'd suck to not be able to boost for a time, but at least you'd get to the bottom of the problem, and luckily, given the inherent aspect of the EIC unit being an "EXTRA" controller, you can still drive, albeit slow.

It may well be that the Com port on your laptop is disabled in the BIOS...

When the laptop boots up and does the memory check hit the Del key to enter the BIOS... then under Intergrated Periphials check to see if Com 1 or Com 2 is disabled....

Did you try it on another computer? Sounds like the computer is the problem...

What version of wndows is on your laptop? If its XP, some RS232 programs do not work on XP... because they do not have access to the hardware directly... I dunno, what OS's has everyone else used the comms software on???

Ok i just got done with the same problom my labtop would work the EIc nore my new desktop nor the older desktop in the garage i was using a 4 dollar cable went to radio shack and bought there 14 dollar cable went home and bam she worked. Also set your com port 1 too The settings are 9600/8/none/1/none - bps/data bits/parity/stop bits/flow control. They will go in that order just go to control panal> system> hardware> device manager> ports com lpt >com port 1 >then port settings. That should work if u need a number for the cable let me no make sure it is not a modom cable because it will not work.

the cable I tried using was a usb-serial converter for my laptop, and on the two desktops it was a belkin serial cable. The serial cable worked before for me. and the usb to serial converter is a good one cost me 50 bucks.

Now, I don't know what or why the cable you have worked before, but I'm sure all of the EIC users will attest; you NEED the right cable and it's NOT, I repeat NOT, a "typical" serial cable. (However, I am nothing close to a computer expert.)

You need the RS-9 cable IIRC. Please someone verify this cable, but Corbin made it abundantly clear the need for the correct cable.

Get a new cable and your problem sounds like it's solved.

i agee with him, i chatted with Javad on this, he says that the newer laptops will be hard for USB ports to communicate with the EIC. you have to stick with the older laptops that still have the older serial ports.

I use windows xp, brand new laptop, Usb->serial adapter w/ the prolific chipset.

16 bit windows applications will talk directly to the hardware via IO 3f8 Irq 4. Seeing as how your using a usb adapter bios settings are not used, windows controls everything. Goto the Device Manager, find the USB->Serial adapter in the tree and double click it to bring up it's properties. Goto the port settings tab, click the advanced buttion and select Com1. Hit ok on all the open windows now, and you may have to reboot. Reboot, plug in the usb-serial adapter start super.exe and select com1.

It will work. I bet you. ;) As long as your new usb->serial adpter is not showing up under HID Devices, it should be under 'Ports (COM & LPT)'.

Depending on what 16 bit program you have not all will work with Windows XP... with most though there are ways to get wround it...

You could also try loading Windows 2000 as a dual boot and see if it'll work. Then when your laptop boots up you'll just have to choose 2000 instead of XP when you want it hooked up to the EIC. I have seen many problems in Windows XP when connecting serial drives to usb ports. If you don't have a copy of Win2000 to try and load let me know and I can send you one.

OK, the unit is ofically dead. I tried it on a desktop running windows 95 with a brand new serial cable radio shack part number 360098. It is saying the program cannot communicate wiht the unit. I have decided that something has to be wrong wiht the unit. I have tried 3 computers two running xp and 1 95. 3 cables a belkin and manhattan serial cable, and an iogear serial to usb converter. all with the same result. time to decide what to do.. yes the com ports are configured correctly, I have tries downloading the program along with the origional discs. I have tried uploading several set files. nothing nothing nothing... Ohh well time to move on I guess.

is there anyone in your area w/ an EIC that can help ya out. Bring their laptop to give it a try and allow you to try to connect to theirs. Personally I like the pretty features of the emanage but until the timing demons are worked out you have and expensive afc(basically). i think his names james, white w/ oz rims(looks hot btw), has had some sucess w/ the emanage but when you buy everything needed your touching some pretty heafty dough. good luck, us eic guys hate to loose a brother. hopefully the designer will work w/ you to get it solved. good luck

I am in a state of confusion right now. I can get the e-manage for 400 with the support tool and the injector harness. But the more I read the more I think it will not work. There is no way I am going back to a rising rate fuel pres reg higher than 1:1. I thought I would be able to run larger injectors Like 550's and the unit would adjust fuel accordingly but it dosent look that way. Otherwise I can use it as the injector controller but will I still be able to tune for off boost? This may help with my idle for the cams. Javad said he would hook me up with a new unit at a good price so that is an option too. I like the 8 injector Idea but I think if I have to get another controller I mine as well get one that will help with tuning for off boost driving too. Then there is always the option to live with not being able to tune my car and save for a standalone. God this is driving me nuts I dont know what to do and I dont know who to go for for the answers.
