Ok well... This happens completely randomly... whether the car is starting up cold, idling, driving calmly, driving hard... Occasionally, i'll look down at my AFR and see it freaking out. Looks like its basically being powered on and off repeatedly. (All the characters on the display light up, then the unit displays my rpm, then it lights up agian, so on and so forth... Each "seizure" lasts about 2-3 seconds... Fuses under the hood and in the footwell are all perfect and replaced recently...

I can't feel any performance loss or hear any inconsistencies with my motor... What could be going on? Simple wiring problem? The last asshole who had his hands on my electrical system wired the EVC4 and shift light on my steering column REALLY tightly...

This is the sort of thing I'd probably let my more experienced shop deal with rather than diving into it myself... hand over the keys and expect to pay a lot... I would like to at least point him in the right direction...

Any ideas?

You probably already checked this, but look at the ground wire. I know that my A/F was off and I checked my ground wire and it was loose and not making a good contact. That'd be my next place to look.

the ground coming off of the AFR itself?

That's what I'm thinking. Again, I've never used the AFR so I'm not sure how it's wired up. Check all your connections and make sure they're tight and the GROUND wire is grounded to a good spot.

yeah i went under there, (mounted in the DIN box underneath head unit) and the lines appear to just run up along some big harness and off to nowhere... I mean I could just snip the (ground) right there and ground the damn thing, but a.) that would be ghetto and b.)... well theres no b it would just be a crappy way of doing things!

Also found out that I have a MECHANICAL boost gauge... lol

I got some wire tap coupler things from Radio Shack... Little too small for the job but I just snapped one on, grounded it with a bit of wire+ring terminal on the body down at this self tapping bolt under the carpet... Also used this metal-paste that supposedly makes these connections stronger... Works! No fucking up! Hooray :D

Most, if not ALL, boost gauges are mechanical gauges. Anyway, check your ring terminal. You stated yourself that it was the wrong size, maybe it popped off. Make sure ALL your wires are connected nice and tight and everything is where it whould be. You said above that the wires followed a bunch of other wires "off into oblivion". That oblivion could be your problem. Again, check check check check check ALL connections!

the ring terminal is sized correctly, its just this splice that might have been too small (it just took a lot more force than it probably should have to get the HKS's ground into it)

I'll double check this connection though...

Oh, also, the wires do NOT go up into oblivion, I was mistaken... I actually spotted the harness, clips into another harness and then heads into engine bay... the wiring looks fine as far as I can see... so i dont know.

im going to check my grounding tomorrow morning but... I'm not optimistic...

Although, banging on my console made it work for like 5-10 minutes so that COULD still be it.
