I have a custom turbo kit. WHAT A PITA!!!!

I'm proud of my set-up because I know My friends and I did ALL the work (except for the DP, That's all Len and Vic at :bowdown Chill Factory). I wish I just saved my money and bought a Chill Factory kit tho ;(

don't be a pussy, go for the custom kit. thats what i'm doing right now. all you gotta do is read alot and understand what you're doing. think about how much fun it will be and how satisfying that will be when you put it all together and it works, just like baby. go for it. :thumbsup

if i decide to go turbo it will definately be custom. I can't handle the idea of paying that much for parts that I know I'll just be replacing later. Anyways I think stage 1 would be a pretty simple setup. thanks for the input so far.

Then your idea about going stage 1 is flawed. "Stage 2" is just intercooling it and having new piping fab'ed up. Going custom should be about finding parts you know you aren't going to be replacing in the near future. That's just as bad as a money waster as 'buying a kit', as you put it.

I don't see the point in making a non intercooled custom job. It's already a pain to get piping done, why go through it twice? :shrug

The reason I'm not worried about this is because my buddy is a professional welder and getting pipes bent and put together is not my biggest concern. I might even go stage 2 right away. who knows

Then do yourself a favor and find a cheap intercooler on ebay.

FYI: custom kit cost = a good used stage 1 cost!

a few of us have gone custom and then gone kit! i promise you now, you will want a kit sooner rather than later. It will be the most aggrivatingly, head-bashing, "fun" project!

I have been searching for a while to find a used kit but thry haven't been to available lately. The turbo just kinda fell into my lap and I have friends who are willing to use their various skills to help me out. I might see if i can't salvage a smic from one of them but I don't see that many problems for this setup I'm only looking at low boost right now.

Right now? What about later? Do it the right way the first time. You said yourself you have easy access to piping and getting it fabbed.

yeah more than likely I should go intercooled right off. but the poll was to see what everyone else thought I should do. Dropping the 3000 dollars into my car is not a problem it's the dropping it all at once that is a problem for me. yes that's right another college kid getting raped by the school

i totally feel your pain, i'm a freshman college kid being cleaned out by bills. i have my t3 turbo, wastegate, o2 sensor housing, 1g bov, and 1g smic so far. that's all i've been able to buy in the last 2 months. i'm in terrible need of a clutch so instead of spending on turbo parts, i'll be saving for a clutch, and reading more and more about the custom turbo route. i've been reading about a custom turbo kit for almost a year now and still learning tons of new things. just keep reading and searching while you don't have the cash for the parts. you'll do fine. good luck maine. :thumbsup

thanks man. I like this idea of going with the custom turbo route as it seems most of the people think I should. If anyone has a link about the hook up on a 95 fuel system that would be cool. Also if anyone has any tips for me anything would be apreciated.

I hate that shit. a couple of months ago I racked up two speeding tickets and a fix it ticket in under 21 days. I mean what the hell is that?!?

kinda funny how everybody says custom kits cost just as much as a regular kit and how its a head ache

check this

s20g-400
manifold-300
rc 440s- 125
sfmu- 225
safc- 200
lines fittings-150
downpipe- 100
fmic- 250
pipes- 100

so i got about 1,850 bux in a turbo setup thats good for about 375 whp. not bad imo, exspecially if you do your own work and you know how to shop and what to look for.

yeah that's what I was thinking and I don't have to drop all that change at once. I think I'm going to make the down pipe and the manifold since I know someone who has been welding for 15 years. I doing an ebay hunt for the other essentials right now. and the turbo was sold to me for $10 so I'm off to a good start I think.
