67313, can lifters make a knocking noise?
Posted by solareclipse98, Mar-20-04 02:46 PM
I'm very concerned... after having the head done, and everything put back together the knock is still there. Can a sticky lifter or a bad lifter making a knocking noise? I checked my rods for up down motion movement and there was none at all... only a little side to side on #1... the oil pan is clean.. no shavings....

the knocking doesn't get louder with higher rpm just gets faster... and tends to go away.... its more noticable while the engine is under load.....

we put in the stock injectors... it seems to run much better but we are trying to figure out the damn vaccume system...

A very frustrated solar...

Even when the engine is warm? would it still do that?

It could do... if you had a lot of clearance... but that shouldn't be the case if you had it bored and honed correctly...

Is the bottom end new? Or just the top end?

How loud is the nocking?

It's noticable while at idle under load... it's noticable outside of the car when i rev up it tends to go away...... if it is piston slap do i have to rebuild?

I have piston slap... if that's all it is then it should be fine.

It's kinda hard though to say what it is without hearing it...

From doing my research i think thats probably what it is.. the problem is it never goes completly away... i can always kinda hear it but at idle and under a little load at idle i can hear it real good.... i know im not eating anything up because the oil pan is clean.....

I'm really about ready to give up on this entire thing.. im frustrated.

Listen to the noise. Is it at engine speed? or at 1/2 of engine rpm's. Anything in the valve train will be at .5 engine RPM's, as the cam's spin half the speed of the crank.

If the shop that built your block went by JE spec .04 you probably have piston slap. My last motor always slapped, after a long drive on the freeway it would go away. But then after idleing for a while or driving 40 on back roads the slap would come back. That's what you get at billy bobs big bad v8 builders . com. :shrug

Well that makes me feel much better. Hey, would that also explain why I have so much crap coming out my breathers?

How much crap is ocming out of your breathers?

Generally "crap" coming out o fyour breathers means one of two things...

Blow by, or bad PCV valve...

My PCV valve is always taking a shit... damn piece of crap...lol
