67274, Nitrous backfired? Posted by big_green, Mar-19-04 10:36 AM
Finaly a warm day, so I need to feel a little nitrous. Just a 50 shot. I hit WOT everything works good, I let up, thats when I hear "POP POP!!" Scared the shit out of me before I figured out what it was.
The question is why did it backfire like that? It has never done that before. Did it run too rich or something?

there was probly some nitrous left in the intake manifold and then ignited. EEEk ive never had that problem though.

It sounded like it came from under the car, like near the cat.

No I dont have a hole in my exhaust. It only backfires when I use the nitrous. Everyday driving is fine.

incomplete burn perhaps? low compression... fouled plug... ?

Compression is good, it must be the plugs, I still have the stock ones in.

I thought you were supposed to run colder or hotter plugs with nitrous? keep in mind these are guesses.
but in case no one has told you.. do not run platinum plugs with nitrous... If you want nice high end plugs you'll have to run iridiums.
