hey guys, i'm looking for a bunch of answers to a bunch of questions. i have a t3 turbo from a 1984 thunderbird turbo coupe. it's in great condition and i'm trying to get it ready for installation. i've seen many people saying that clocking the t3 turbo is a breeze. it was easy to clock, but i'm not sure if i've clocked it to the right orientation. the wastegate nipple is pointing right into the top of the compressor housing. also because of how it's clocked, i can only get on bolt hole to line up on the wastegate mount. it is bolted down good and it won't move. will this work, does anyone have any insight or suggestions with how i've clocked this. the way i have it now, the oil outlet is pointing straight down, is the oil inlet 180 degrees around the other side of the compressor? which is the coolant inlet and outlet?









the turbo has an a.r of .60. what does that mean, is that good? how does that compare with other t3's.


i was noticing that our (2gnt) o2 sensor fits perfectly in the t3's o2 sensor housing's hole . can this o2 sensor location be used or should i just weld and o2 bung in on the downpipe?

an 84 turbo may not be water-cooled only oil-cooled may ford turbo were like that

0.6 a/r is very good

you don't have to play with the orientation of the turbo it fits very well on the 420a engine with the right style of manifold

you could put your o2 sensor right at the exit of the turbo if you want to that's where it was on the Ford and Mitsubishi turbo car anyway

alain, thanks a bunch for those links and your help. i'm gonna try to load up those pics on a different server, thank you uber for those links. alain, there are four holes in the turbo, it's definitly water and oil cooled, not to mention, i can still smell the coolant. i've read about a few set ups that people have and don't even use the water and oil, just oil. that wastegate link was the best i've seen yet but still not very descriptive. alain, i will definitly be buying my manifold from you, you are still making them right? alright well i'm gonna try to get those pics up on another server. then maybe answering my questions would be alot easier. EDIT: i just went back and read your message again alain, i didn't see your signature, "the original maker of custom manifolds and still in business". i guess that answered my question, haha sorry.

if the turbo is water-cooled anyone of the 2 holes could be used as a in or a out unlike the oil which need the right flow pattern
if the 2 holes are one above the other you use the upper one as the input so gavrity will work for you and not against you
if they are 1 on eaach side than you just do it like it fits your need and you car

the wg actuator is so simple, you cut the rod, you thread the rod, you bolt an external spring, and you reassemble the rod
doesn't take a bachelor degree to do that :)

Alain, do you offset the turbo flage from center? My manifold was built with the flange right in the center witch cause a problem for me. I planed on using the ford O2 housing and waste gate but with the manifold constructed like it is caused the O2 housing to interfere with the AC lines. So I decide to take all that crap off and bought an external WG and welded a flange onto the manifold. That gave me some headaches but it turned out nice. It's just something that Ugghead might want to consider.

i figured i'd try and post them. didn't one of you guys say that it doesn't matter which inlet the coolant goes into? just making sure.
so what do you think about how i've clocked the compressor housing? is that the way it should be done or should i rotate it to a different orientation? thanks for all your help guys, i really appreciate it.

the turboflange is always facing cylinder 3 unless the client wants it centered
by doing it with an offset you could route a better downpipe system and when you use a ford turbo like this garrett or the IHI rhb-52 of the 87-88 t-coupe you could also keep the ford o2 housing

yes you coule keep the o2 housing
check on the website that I gave you it's a ford o2 housing like yours on the turbo

don't touch the center section it's in the right position already

the only thing you could play with is the compressor housing but don't do until you are ready to built your pipping in the car

most peoples turn it to the outlet will go up instead of down, that nakes the job easier to do
