67108, Question about HRC stage 2 installation
Posted by EclipseRST, Mar-15-04 04:26 PM
Alright I'm upgrading to stage 2 on Wednesday and only have a limited time to do it in before my friend has to take off back to school and I won't be able to use his tools anymore (I'm a moocher).

First off, I have a 98 so would I be following E1 or E2 in this link
http://home.bendcable.com/optimuspeterson/instruc%206-10.htm

Also the pictures in the instructions are crap and I can't tell exactly what or where I'll be cutting. Can somebody clarify a bit?

Basically this is luck of the draw. For the most part, 98-99's are E1 and 95-97s are usually E2. You'll know if there's a giant hole underneath the fusebox, you have E1.

If you cant fit an intercooler pipe in the hole, you have E2. For that you basically go apeshit with a sawzall until you can. Most people just cut a U-shaped hole so the IC piping fits more or less.

Here's some pics:

That hole rocks. My pipe runs through it nicely. It isnt too bad...you'll get it.

Oh alright, I thought that was the hole they were talking about but wasn't sure. I'm an E1. Also, for the fender wall is it necessary to cut out the giant rectangle shape like it shows in the instructions or just a hole for the piping?

I don't about the SMIC, but if your going for the FMIC the gaint hole is necessary to allow room for both the in and return pipes of the IC. I ended up just taking the whole corner off, I think it looks cleaner and more intentional.

The inside panel of the wheel well is what needs to be cut.

I think I already hacked most of it up before when figuring out a place to put my 1G SMIC. I'm just not sure how much needs to be cut for placement of this HRC SMIC.

I only had to relocate the horn on my 1999 RS, the HRC piping and SMIC fit perfectly without any modification. I remove the plastic airdam and front bumper insert at the track for better airflow.

Front bumper insert?:scratch I was planning on removing that plastic D shaped piece permanently.

I bought it from slodsm. He was parting out his car and snagged his HRC SMIC, piping, and a Turbo XS Type H34 bov. All of it has less than 1000 miles on it and brand new it's about $1,000. I got it for $500 }(.
