i have posted this in the 4g section in two different threads, i have also posted it twice on tuners and once on talk. it has been over 5 days. i have not gotten any response from anyone.


if i do the home made ic tester on the inlet of the turbo, will it also check my vac lines or just ic lines. maybe a dumb question to some, but i need a freakin answer regardless.

Seeing as this type of test does pressurize your intake mani, I would think it would pressurize your vacuum lines as well, but unless you have a large leak in a vacuum line it will probably be hard to locate. It's probably easier to visually check the vacuum lines.

done the visual check. i think it goes deeper than that. i have pretty much given up on any type of leak tester that is home made because i have been to 5 different places looking for a 2.5" O.D. pipe. no one has one unless i want to pay 20 bucks for some gas line stuff that i wont need. survey says---nope. screw this car, screw modding. i am so tired of this crap for now. maybe the car will just sit for a while.....

I just got some PVC pipe, around 2.25" or so, and got a rubber PVC coupler for it, and a end cap for the pipe. Put a air compressor fittigng in the end cap, sealed it with epoxy. Then I just put the coupler on the intake of the turbo, and regulate some air pressure in there with the air compressor. I also put a small hose barb on the pipe, and have a vac/pressure gauge hooked up to that, so I know how fast pressure leaks out..It will pressurize everything in the intake track, and all vac/boost lines, BOV, IC, and everything related that sees boost pressure.

how big is the intake side on the 14b? 2.25 or 2.5?

I have always bought 3" to 2" reducers with a 2" cap in one side, and just clamped the hell out of it. 2.5" to 2" reducers for PVC apparently don't exist.

man oh man. i was goin crazy trying to find some freakin hose because that is what the vfaq says to use. oh well. guess i will be making another trip to lowes to buy me up some pipe. ;-) i just hope i can find these connectors you guys are talking about.

Yeah, i think i used 2" PVC or something like that. Then just get those rubber PVC connectors to fit the pipe..they stretch out really well actually, and its really no big deal to fit it over the turbo inlet..or just use your current coupler that goes on the intake of your turbo inlet piping..I got everything at Home Depot.

When you guys pressure test do you open the throttle all the way. Cuz if you don't you're only checking for pressure in the I/C piping, but if you open up the throttle you're testing where most of the leaks come from, the intake manifold.

you can do an inline guage or you can have a friend watch your boost guage and tell you when its pressurized to 20psi. small leak or not if you have some soapy water handy or something to spray on potential areas it will help show you exactly where your leak is
