6616, Need help deciding!!!!!!

Ok guys here's the delimna. My car is a '99 RS, has about 40000 miles on it and I'm planning on getting it turbo'd (stage 1 maybe 2). But a dealer is selling a '97 GST that has 47000 miles on it and the difference between the price and the trade-in value is about 2000 bucks which I need to get financed. A wise man told me, "You know what you got....but you don't know what you are getting." But the deal is just so damn irresistable!!!! If I keep my car, i'll spend about 2000-3000 buck on the turbo kit alone and no where can get as high of a boost as the GST (with upgraded turbo of course). My friend told me that you can easily get a GST into the 12's for a lot cheaper than turbo'ing a RS or GS. DAMMIT...DAMMIT!!!!!! Of course, GST's are known for their crankwalk problems, and I've read it only happens on manual trannies (not sure though). My car is an auto and so is the GST I'm thinking about. What do you guys think????

If its auto, and you want to stay auto, go for the GS-T. Its just easier. Autos have a MUCH less chance of getting CW since there is no clutch. Its not impossible though.
If I were you, I would check out the GS-T to make sure its ok, then buy it.

yeah go with Gst cuz of Auto. besides.. crankwalk.. may or maynot happen to you. so you never know.. it's a chance. but yes It's alot easier to upgrade a gst Auto than a 420a Auto. No offence to auto guyz. It's just what I've seen on 2gnt board.. more 5spd turbo'd than auto's.

just my .99 cents + tax

the few things I'm taking into consideration:

1. pay 2000-3000 bucks on a brand new turbo kit and get nowhere as high of boost as an upgraded GST

2. pay or financed the difference of about 2000 and get a GST with a turbo that has 47000 miles under the belt

3. 97 GST = 47000 miles/4 years = 11700 miles per year
99 RS (my car) = 40000 miles/2 years = 20000 miles per year

4. INSURANCE, but somebody told me that if your car is older then the insurance won't be as high. I hope it kinnda even things up a bit since I am getting an OLDER car with a TURBO in it.

5. well, crankwalk..............heard a LOT of horror stories

You check the side to side play on the crankshaft pulley to see if it is within spec. Its easier to take it to the dealer and have them do it with a tool that is designed to measure it.
You seriously shouldn't worry about crankwalk with the auto. I have a friend with an auto 97 TSi AWD that runs mid 13s and is still perfectly in spec for CW. the crank doesn't move at all on his car. He has close to 70 thousand miles on the odo.

Seriously, while I hate seeing a 2gnt go....get the GS-T. Just make sure you don't disappear from the board. I'd hate to be one to help reduce the member base of 2gnt.
