66103, ARP parts?
Posted by thegame, Feb-28-04 09:31 AM
Got a new VT block. Gonna put my stock head on it. Do I need new main, head, or both kits? Whats the difference? I think VT was supposed to put ARP studs in it, but I cant remember if they did or not (Im not at home right now).

The 420a engines built by VT Engines do not come with head studs. You will have to buy your own. I bought mine from Hahn Racecraft for $140.00. The technicians at Hahn told me that they worked directly with ARP developing the Head Bolts for the 420a platform.

The ARP main bolts that VT Engines lists on their website for items that are replaced when the engine is rebuilt are not head studs. These bolts are used to hold the bedplate to the block which also keeps the crankshaft in the correct position in the bottom of the motor.

No you don't need the main studs. All you need is the ARP head studs. Part number 141-4202 and it's $96 from Summit Racing.

Go to the manufacturer part number search link on Summits main page. The manufacturer search page should give you a drop down box with a whole bunch of manufacturers and a text box to enter the manufacturers part number. Select ARP - Automotive Racing Products (something like that) and then put the part number in the text box next to it and click search or ok. That should pull it up. Worse come to worse just call them to order it. The person you give the part number will be able to find it. The summit site has TONs of parts that you cannot find unless you do the manufacturer part number search.

If you want them soon order them soon. Summit does not stock them and they are another ~$30 if you order directly from ARP.

anyone have a part # that got them directly from arp?? i called them and told them i need head studs for the 420a. didnt know what that was so i said mitsubishi. he said he only has 4g63. so i said probably the same thing as the neon. and gave him #4202. he said id have to rip off my head, measure it, then call him back. ok? so is 4202 the right #? he said some of the guys are using too many washers to make it work, and not properly. ha. i cant believe i stayed up to call them for him to tell me that.

Man, I put the freaking numbers on the box that sits in my garage that mine came in. It's also in ARPs freaking catalog. Do we need to have it verified in triplicate because I am just that damn untrustworthy. Here.

That is the right part number. It's for a DOHC 420a Neon. Same head but transversed. Will you need an extra washer ... probably on one stud. People have varying reports but I put an extra one on that stud on my block for piece of mind. Its the same bolt/stud that always has a problem because the hole is too shallow.

Just order them. Not everyone knows what engine is in the 2gNT. You can't count on the ARP customer service guys knowing what engine every car has. They'll look in their catalog and tell you what they see. If it's not listed they'll ask for the bolt length and thread pitch. Hell I still get dumbass at a Mitsu dealer telling me I have a mitsu motor.
