can you just spray paint the FMIC with high temp paint? I want to paint it black to help with the sleeper look (when i get one)... now if only i had stealthy wheels.

You can paint it with just about any paint. It will get a little hot but not hot enough to need high-temp paint. I still can't believe that you want to paint a FMIC though. :o

Personally, I wouldn't put much paint on an IC. Maybe some letters, but not the whole thing. The paint may alter the heat transfer characteristics of the IC. Since the whole point of the IC is to reject heat, I wouldn't risk lowering lower the heat transfer coefficient.

Yea, i wouldn't suggest you paint the whole thing but, I painted "BLITZ" in the center of mine in honor of my dream ride the BLITZ TT supra.

yeah, i want to paint it to keep people from assuming i'm fast- i want them to race me and find out for sure (when i get it):)
i was debating getting a side mount, but thats just another hassle. also, thats why i really dont want the triple pillar mount, but i dont want to get fancy on the interior. at least i have tints to help hide the gauges.

check with swain coatings. they have a black coating that is supposed to HELP dissapate heat. it's meant specifically for intercoolers and the outside of piping where you want to maximize heat radiation. i'm sure it's more $$ than a few cans of spray paint, but think of it as a performance mod too.

If you want to hide the ic...why not make youeself a custom grill, like klipz has on his car.

Scot Gray from SoCal mentioned on that list that you can paint intercoolers and not lose to much efficiency if you do it right. I don't remember the details exactly, but basically hold the paint can somwehat far away from the intercooler and just dust on some _very_ light coats. Just enough to get the colour across, but not so much that you completely cover the metal. I suggest getting some other material to practice on, maybe an old refrigerator radiator from the dump or something.

If not in direct sunlight, black dissipates heat MUCH better than shiny aluminum. However "painting" something black is debateable.

The best thing you could do, is get the intercooler anodized (spelling?) black. Dunno about the costs though...

In fact I am quite surprised that companies aren't already offering colored intercoolers. It would be the ultimate rice-boy's dream. :-)

now why would you wanna do a thing like that and ruin the efficiency of the intercooler? just get a side mount if you don't want anybody to notice you're force induced.

there was recently a thread about this at dsmtalk and someone e-mailed rre and they responded that it will drop efficiency slightly if painted with thin paint

Why not get the Grillcraft grills and get those painted the color of your car then they would conceal the intercooler behind them. just a thought

yeah guys, with my grill you can't really see behind it unless you look at an angle which will be great when i get mine cause i's gonna put my factory rs stickers on the hatch again and front like it's non-turboed. straight sleepin, beeyotch!

is that a gutter guard grill or grillcraft?

I'd think that regardless of color, any coat of paint on the intercooler would act as an insulator, reducing the efficiency. Especially if you used a natural insulator such as latex paint. I just wouldn't have any idea about the actually efficiency numbers.
