ok... thing is ... I already HAVE what appears to be a Stage 1 Star kit. Problem? I know absolutely nothing about it, or the turbo I've got.

Originally when I bought the car, the owner successfully fooled me into believing it was the significantly larger T04-R snail... I learned soon thereafter that its just a T3/T4...(by posting a couple of pictures on THIS FORUM and seeing what you guys thought... LOL) Whatever. But now I want to know... What is this thing? How can I get specs on it? (and what is it capable of)

Would also like to find out more about purchasing the 3" DP.. I have the link to the GB info but... would rather have the manufacturers' info so I can call em up a few months down the road and tell them "plz make me this downpipe" and send them some money. Heh.

its probably a turbonetics T3/T4 with either a .57 or a .63
it should be good for as much hp as your car is capable of handling.

If you look at the compression side blades, how many of them are there, 6 or 7? Should give a good idea of what trim it is to start off with.

The STAR turbo is a .63 AR T3 Hotside with a 50 trim wheel. (a "stage 3" hotside) The compressor uses either a B or E housing, 40 trim wheel. My E trim housing is .60 AR if i remember right.

Easier way to tell is to take it off. the AR is stamped into the hotside inside the inlet. The wheel trim is stamped into the outside of the compressor... just gotta look.

AR is Area by Radius.. it is a ratio that represents the scroll of the turbo. A smaller AR means a sharper scroll, which means more energy is directed into the turbine faster, but it flows less overall. I bigger AR means less energy is directed into the turbine as a smaller AR, but it will flow more, allowing more HP prodcution at the cost of spool time over a smaller AR. Quick rule of thumb (but not always true) - smaller AR ratios spool faster but limit HP. Bigger ARs spool slower, but allow more HP to be made.

"Stage 3" is the designation given to that particular hotside configuration. They sell is as a "stage 3" turbine and housing for their T3/T4 hybrid turbos.

Yeah, with some electronic boost controllers, you use that port to hold the wastehate shut until the desired boost level is achieved, then it pops a solinoid, and snaps the wastegate full open.

I had heard of that.. just making sure it was for that or he was just plugging the wrong port.

I didnt set the turbo or any of the electronics up, I just replaced all the hoses one at a time without thinking where theyre supposed to go... badly cracked/burnt to a crisp when I got the car!!

OK i counted the number of blades on the compressor side... Seven ... if memory serves.. (ill go double check now)

To the best of my knowledge, you can't identify a wheel just by counting the blades.

Whoever told you that counting the blades on the turbo will do something for you is blowing smoke up your ass. Do you like that enema?

You need to go to turbo school. a RED is NOT a 20G, and a GREEN is NOT a t3/t4... ass spelunkers.
