The dealership wants about $75.00 for both the inner and outer timing cover. Since i am not driving solar as a daily driver can i run solar without a timing cover... I'm just trying to cut back on some of the rinky dink things.

They will not let you run sport compact races with a fuel cell so we had to put the stock fuel tank back in... fuel cell's are only allowed in bracket racing.

We got all the hoses that we needed to put the thing back together and im on my way here in just a second to go pickup the new timing belt.

You can, but it's a bit risky. All it takes is a loose part or rock to bounce in there to jam things up. Many race cars, and some street cars, run w/o it. I'd like to leave mine off, too, but my car is a daily driver.

Myself and many others didn't bother putting the timing belt cover back on. It's easier to work on the engine w/o it, less crowded, ability to monitor the belt etc. With it being "exposed" you might have to replace it at oh say after 70000 miles instead of 75000.

And the reality is, nothing short of someone intentionally shoving a metal rod between your gears is gonna stop it.

Just be careful leaning over your engine when it's running and your wearing a hoody ;)

What if you threw an accessory belt? Wouldent that f up the timing belt if there was no cover on it??

I agree with ^^^ the accesory belt could slip and if does hit the timing belt, its not a good thing. I mean it it will not be your daily driver and you are just using it for show then I wouldn't worry about it. But if you start to run it, whether on street or track, which after seeing your setup with the pics you have I know I would wanna run it, you are running a big risk over a small pebble getting in there and screwing up your whole setup. Obviously, you have spent a lot of time and cash on your car...If I were you I would spend the extra $75 to be safe.

GET A COVER!!! You lose a belt it'll get tangled in there and bend valves etc.. don't do it.

Cool good idea! I purchased the entire cover tonight.... we also got everything else needed to get her back up on the road... and that could be tomorrow!

Belts come off in the direction away from the t-belt, and everyone I've seen poped off (which was due to a initally wobbly pulley or under tightened tensioner) just rests camley to the side of the engine (a good distance away from the belt), or falls under.

I've been running mine as a daily driver with no cover for over a year now... I've had no "Airbourne" acc. belts... haha, nor any "belt-guided rocks" come my way and create uneaded havoc on my timing belt... :thumbsup

the cover doesnt do that much. I would rather not have it on. The accessory belts won't knock the timimg belt off. I used to always throw accessory belts and nothing happened with tthe timing. I say leave it off helps for easy adjustments.

I've had mine off for 10k miles and through this whole michigan winter without a hitch. I know a lot of other people do it also, and never heard of any problems.

I have gutted everything unrelated to performance kinda... and my car runs purdie good ;-) Just a list of some the the major things i ripped out long time ago that dont bother anything.. plastic parts like your talking about, shields and crap, evap system, egr system, ac system, 02 sensors, cat, all kinds of brackets and crap.. and many many other things.. Some of you cant rip out quite all that cause of smog tests, but it wont hurt if you do..
