Well I have been thinking about getting A CF hood for a while now. I have been looking on ebay and I see that vis sells 3 types that have vents the Invader, Evo, and Extreme. I think these would be great because it would rid me of some of the heat that the engine bay sees. Question 1 does anyone know if any of these hoods would hit my turbo? Because they all seem to be indented down towards where the turbo is. Question 2 I am concerned about them looking a little ricey especially with my red car, any thoughts? If this needs to be moved to the interior/exterior section sorry I thought that in this section I would get the best feed back about the turbo situation.

I am not really a big fan of those hood that sweep into the engine bay. I like this hood with slits over the turbo area.



I love that hood actually cause it still looks stock.

Just take off the weather stripping above the firewall by the wipers. Ta da, poor man's cowl hood.

Yeah but how much could that posibly help? a vent near the turbo would be the most affective.

I can get good prices on C-F hoods. I am doing a goup buy right now check it out in that section on page 31. Prices from $290 up plus shipping. All are VIS brand.

Hope this helps some...in a similar situation. I might just end up getting a stock CF hood just because I don't want to get a vented unless I have a body kit,

Thats an Aerogear Predator hood.

Seems to work pretty well with the turbo... (we had to do a little cutting of the hood underside cause the turbo was rubbing it).

You have to remember that the air is coming OUT of those holes from the bottom of the engine bay.

I am going to be buying a VIS invader hood in the next few weeks just b/c of heat concerns as well. The VIS hood is nice b/c the vent is directly over our turbo and it doesn't rub with anything. I don't know how much it actually helps cool, but I am hoping will help somewhat since I am spending the money ;( I recommend you get thermal wrap from Summit Racing to really help keep things cool. That might be a better and cheaper option to keeping things cool. Good luck making a decision.

Hey Techboy let me know how it all works out with the turbo there. If you could just post something about it when you put it on. Well I have some thermal wrap on my dp but I am a little sceptical of putting anything on the turbo or mani. I thought I remembered reading here a while back that you could crack the mani of you kept more of the heat in. I also love CF and would not mind the weight reduction.:thumbsup

Yeah, good call, I wouldn't recommend wrapping your mani either, but I've seen DP's wrapped all the way up to the turbo housing, which is what I am planning on doing.

I will certianly post up my opinions on the invader hood and heat reducation, but your going to have to watch this forum for awhile, I'm pulling my engine in the next two weeks and dropping another rebuilt one I already have, but I will doing a lot of other work along the way, so I might be a while until I have the whole car back together with a hood on it .....:thumbsup

Is anybody worried about water falling into the engine from the vents? Is this a problem or are the vents shaped to let water around the hole but not in it?

i left my hoop popped once.....was on accident. the whole trip to work the turbo would spool slower, a lot slower. my turbo isnt ceramic coated or anything.
