65543, Nitrous question Posted by coppereclipse95, Feb-19-04 02:23 PM
After having the kit in my car for almost 5 months, I've finally decided to use my NX wet kit. Here are the questions...
1.) What should the nitrous pressure be when the bottle is full? Because I got a guage for the bottle and when I plugged everything/opened the bottle, it only went up to 600PSI.
2.) This kit is 75 shot. Should I be able to tell when it kicks in? Because, I couldn't tell any difference.
3.) How do you know if the there is a leak or not? I noticed at first, I didn't use teflon tape to connect the line to the bottle. But I can hear the N20 leaking. If there are no leak, I shouldn't be able to hear any sound from the bottle right?
Those are some of the questions I got for now. TIA

i dunno how your gauge is, but mine has a little green area indicating proper fill and pressure....and right now i cant remember for the life of me what that area is...my bottle isnt here with me.
i heard that a 50 shot is easily noticible, so if your saying a 75 shot isnt then maybe your nitrous isnt engaging?? have you checked to make sure the solenoids are opening properly and that all the wiring is good? id assume youd know an extra 60 or so HP, especially when it kicks in suddenly
as far as leaking, you should be abel to hear and/or smell it. should smell like sulfur (rotten eggs).

1. the pressure rises and falls with the temperature. the hotter it is, gas expands, cooler it compresses. optimal usage pressure should be between 900 and 1100psi.
2.HELL YES you should be able to tell, if you didnt get anything, you didnt do something right.
3.Use not tape!!! you will either hear it or smell it(they put sulfer gas in with it). those are the only real ways to tell. That and having no gas in the bottle a day after you filled it up. Dotnleave it open. close it when not in use. No system is totaly leak proof. as far as hearing the leak, Tigthen the nut on the bottle more. I had that problem to.
good luck

so ^^^ the optimal pressure can only be achieved with bottle warmer? I'm just curious about why fully filled bottle only can get up to 600PSI.

Your missing the point. your bottle is only reading 600psi for your CURRENT ambient temperature. It can rise and fall with the temperature of the surrounding air and the amount of nitrous oxide currently in the bottle. That is where a thermostat controlled or pressure controlled bottle warmer will help you out.
And fuck yea if you can't feel a 75 shot then you definantly dont have it working right. it should kick you back in your seat and depending on what gear you are shooting in should take you to redline in seconds...
Better recheck your setup man, it doesnt sound right.

Ok, so just because I got a full bottle doesn't mean that it's at optimal pressure right? Especially with cold weather. I just assumed that I was supposed to have optimal pressure (when full) because I've heard people saying that they don't use bottle warmer and stuff.
I guess I need to recheck my connections, because I couldn't tell anything.

If it is really cold outside, your bottle pressure will drop quite a bit. You definately need to get a bottle warmer. You will make much more power with it. I once ran my car (not the GSX) at the track with the bottle at 1100psi and ran a 14.2. I by the end of the night my bottle was down to 800psi and I was only clickin off low 15's. When your pressure is low, the bottle just can't flow enough juice to keep up with the motor. You'll start to surge. Almost like the tiny as T-25, at high boost levels, it just don't flow enough. Some tips for ya, get a bottle heater on there and when you go to fill the bottle, put ice on it while it is in the backseat, rotate it as you drive to get it filled. By the time you arive, it should be ice cold. Being cold like this allows them to squeeze an extra 1 to 2 lbs of gas in there. After you do that, go out and warm her up. You should be in the 1000-1150psi range with that and ready to kick off some great times. Go through and recheck all your connections for leaks and have someone verify your WOT switch while you step on the gas pedal. Hope this helps ya.

Well, I found out what was wrong wtih my system and now it's working. There was a fuel safety thing, but I didn't ground it. * Does anyone know how to use that fuel safety thing? And one more thing, I've noticed my car was running really really rich (even though my A/F gauge is the blinking thing). The light was as far as it can go to the right. That's too rich right? So it was stutteruing while accelerating. The car had smooth acceleation up till 5000rmp..then it started doing it. * What can I do to get rid of it? Do I have to adjust my fuel setup? Just plug my fuel stuff from my wet kit? TIA But, WOW the car did kick pretty good while it was accelerating smooth.

Your going to run like that on those gauges. I had one of those and wanted to through the damn thing out the window. Most inaccurate of all guages in my opinion. How big of a shot are you running? What jets are you using? Sounds to me if you are stuttering above 5000rpms, it is because of your low bottle pressure. Are you getting any backfire?

I'm running 75 shot, wet NX kit. I also was testing my bottle warmer, so I know I had over 900PSI when I last saw it before using. I think I was backfireing. Doesn't that happen because I'm running rich?

If you are backfiring try and reduce the size of your N20 jet. I believe the 75shot jet is 42 for nitrous and 27 for fuel. Leave the fuel alone and reduce the N20 jet to 41. You don't want to start reducing your fuel at first or you could go lean. Try that and see if it helps you out. Honestly I would start off small and gradually increase your shot. Start with a 50 shot for good measure drop in a 37 nitrous jet and 22 fuel jet in and see how that works for you. Much safer that way. Good luck.

when i spray my a/f gauge is pinned out in the rich side because of all the xtra fuel.

Same here. I have only had my kit up and running for a few months. No bottle heater + winter = surging

Its most likely stuttering cause you are drowning the engine with too much fuel. Did you put a filter on your N2O line? it could possibly be clogged. better to be rich than lean.do you have a nitrous pressure gauge?

Hey man, what's going on. I do have a nitrous guage near the tap on the bottle. I really can't see it while spraying due to the bottle being in the trunk. But, before I sprayed I had my bottle warmer on for a while to make sure the pressure was in mid 900PSIs to 1000PSI. What are you talking about a filter on N2O line? If it doesn't come with the kit, I don't have one on.
