65499, Turbo Install Problems

Ok I just installed the kit but I am having problems. I took it down the road to get gas and the turbo sounds like its whining or like a loud siren when it is spooling up. I think and am pretty sure it's a boost leak I'm going to check the connections tomorrow, but do you have any other suggestions and yes there was oil in the turbo and it is a brand new turbo with an internal wastegate. Also there is blow-off so I know it's building boost but it makes a really loud whining/siren sound. Please help.

Is the sound like a police siren? Maybe your just a liittle boost paranoid – don't worry I was like that for the 1st month.

How about an exhaust leak of some sorts at the turbo dp, and the stock dp.

Did you test to make sure that there was oil?

Anyway, yes your turbo does make a sound. When my boost gauge is 1 hg from 0 vac, I can here the turbo start to spool (maybe that's what your hearing). It kinda a soft wooooooossssshhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Yeah like jsupe said, when your turbo starts to spool it'll sound sort of like a hissing like air is leaking. As far as a police siren I don't know man, I've never heard of anything like that.

What does your boost gauge say when you're at WOT?

Mine makes a similar sound if I go WOT when the car isn't warmed up. It's sort of like a screeching noise...but after my ar is warmed up it doesnt do it....Ive never known why its done that. no boost leaks here...

Seth, we should meet up here sometime soon. Maybe look for leaks somewhere or listen for them. i would say though just double check all your connections, make sure the car is warmed up to operating temp next time before boosting, may be cause its been cold out.

just for fun, take the piping off and check for shaft play. if it is a brand new turbo and it has a lot of shaft play, maybe it was built wrong or damaged from the getgo.

Well if he's hitting his desired boost setting at WOT then there wouldn't be any leaks. As long as you're boosting alright I say don't worry about it.

That's gotta be an oil problem. Imagine a shaft spinning at 20,000 RPM without any kind of lubrication! run the car and feel the oil feed line to see if it gets warm. If it's warm you know it's got oil going through it. I would suggest not boosting until you figure it out. That is not normal in any way.

Oil is getting to it we've checked the line atleast 4 times and I'm not feeling boost either. I'm going to check the boost level today.

Hrmm, you must have a major leak somewhere.

Ok we fixed the leak and it's still sounding really bad. It sounds like a siren exactly like it and when I accelerate it gets really loud. I can feel boost though a little but haven't gone WOT only to about 5000 RPMs.

Any suggestions? I am totally out of ideas and this is getting really frustrating.

ARE YOU SURE THERES NO LEAKS.. what bov are you running, have a friend sit in the car and push the gas. not sure what rpm for you cuz i used 4 but this was in a gsr
and i felt for air out of the bov.. felt it at 4k which wasnt cool so i adjusted by bov till i felt none
granted that was a greddy type s
but the car felt much better at first

i had a issue when i first boosted cuz the coupling on teh compressor kept popping off
are you sure theres no leaks..

Im with Evan, what BOV do you have? could be it leaking. if your turbo was getting NO oil, it would most likely have locked up by now. Either you have a large boost leak, or exhaust leak.

I think we figured out the problem and the turbo is fucked. Bent shaft.
