65485, Sputtering problem, Need Help! Posted by freddy_00_69, Feb-18-04 02:57 PM
For some reason, i turned on my car and went to drive off and it started to cut off and then died down and shut off. I am assuming it is a fuel problem. I got a sfmu, 30 lb injectors, walbro intank, inline fuel pump, missing link, and my idle pressure is set at 25psi. Anyone got any suggestions, it just now started, earier during the day, it was fine. Do i need to raise my idle pressure b/c my wastegate is at 10psi or what could it be. I have a downpipe leak, but not much. When it starts sputtering, my vacuum goes to almost 0 and i am not even giving it gas and my air'fuel gauge reads stoich. Please help, i am trying to get this car right.

That sounds like an electrical problem to me. Have you checked all the basics like plugs and wires? Has this only happened once? I highly doubt it has anything to do with the DP leak.

I kinda had a problem like that but it ould sputter and almost die then it would rev itself. My problem turned out to be the oxygen sensor but it could be anything igntion related and its usually a cheap thing to fix as long as its not a coil. But I'd start there also if there is a cel that just showed up since this happened I'd check the o2 sensor to see if it is coated in a black film if so its bad and your running rich.

^ A new msd blaster coil pack is cheaper than a new o2 sensor. Check your plugs and wires.

I am going to replace my wires, plugs, and see. It stopped doing it now, it runs fine for some strange reason, i messed with my fuel pressure. I think i need an 02 sensor anyway so i will replace that. I have a screamin deamon coil pack from modern performance on right now. Thanks for the suggestions.

Sounds electrical. Check any wires around your EGR pipe on the right side of the head. Check that MAP wires aren't touching the hood, etc.
Also if you have a Craptech FPR, make sure your fuel pressure is where you set it and not some arbitrary value.

Check for vacuum leak(s). Do you have stock injectors or bigger ones? I think you might be a bit rich with a Walbro intank and inline pump. Try lowering the idle & boost fuel pressure a little to see if it'll help. Pull the plugs to see if it's flooded with fuel.

No flood with plugs, checked them today. I have to check the egr pipe tomorrow. I have 30lb injectors, SFMU, and and me idle pressure is around 25, i believe i was dumping to much fuel and it would die b/c i lowered the pressure and it has been driving fine since. But i will still check everything you guys suggest and leep you updated, thanks.

I had the exact same symptoms and exact same problem. Make sure your fuel line around the sfmu is not kinked causing you to make unnecessary adjustment of the bleedvalve which causes undersireable fuel pressure under boost and vauum.
