I'm gonna change out my exhaust manifold gasket and bolts and was looking at this

Now I thought I only needed 6- 8mm Stud to head and washers, so why do I need the nuts too? THanks

yes
bolt just goes in hole
stud go in hole with nut holding tihng on stud
