65271, about to buy a hahn.... Posted by ajcfalcon, Feb-15-04 12:09 PM
im about to buy a used stage 1 kit from kidcap0, and i had some questions that he could not answer.
first of all: how much do you think a used stage 1 hahn kit is worth?
second: i had a star stage 2 at one point in my life, and it had a little black box for the fuel cut defender... does hahn use that too?
thirdly:the star had an external wastegate with an allen wrench whole to adjust boost... looking at the pictures of the hahn kit i do not see a wastegate, so i was wondering how do you adjust boost pressure without a boost controler?
fourthly: if i get a stock gst intercooler(if they have one, which im not sure if they do or not; smic im guessing) will i be able to hook that up pretty easily?
5th: he told me that 95-96 have different fuel systems so he did not need a black box and i have a 98 so i do need one..... if that is true, will hahn supply that for pretty cheap or should i put out more money on a missing link?
thanks guys, i appreciate your help

I got my stage one for 2200 from howell.
Hrc uses a small fcd.
The wastegate from star is external, the one from hahn is internal. It is located under the turbo.
Custom smics are the cheap alternative of going stage 2. It works well all though it may be ghetto looking. Robotechdsm has one, ner had an smic setup (before going with an hrc fmic set up), timrs had a custom turbo kit with a custom 1g smic, and xtremers has is running 13 lbs of boost on the 1g smic.
Early 95s have a different fuel set up with a return line. You will still need an fcd, but get the missing link since it is better,
-------jezreel hrc stage 1, sfmu, ml, prokits, egt, boost gauge, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler
nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!! thanks for www.kaptainmyke.com for the sig hosting :thumbsup

"im about to buy a used stage 1 kit from kidcap0, and i had some questions that he could not answer. first of all: how much do you think a used stage 1 hahn kit is worth?"
Depends on milage, condition, and exactly what parts are being supplied. I paid around 1400 for my stage 1 kit used, with 5000 or so miles. It was a complete kit also.
"second: i had a star stage 2 at one point in my life, and it had a little black box for the fuel cut defender... does hahn use that too?"
Yes, HRC uses a FCD, or you can use the missing link check valve
"thirdly:the star had an external wastegate with an allen wrench whole to adjust boost... looking at the pictures of the hahn kit i do not see a wastegate, so i was wondering how do you adjust boost pressure without a boost controler? "
HRC turbos use an internal wastegate. The wastegate actuator sits under the turbo, and a small vac line goes from the compressor outlet, to the wastegate actuator. To raise boost, just insert a boost controller into this vac line.
"fourthly: if i get a stock gst intercooler(if they have one, which im not sure if they do or not; smic im guessing) will i be able to hook that up pretty easily?"
Find a 1st gen SMIC, they are easily found, and fairly cheap. Then, get a bunch of mandrel bends from JC Whitney, and cut/fab up your own piping.
"5th: he told me that 95-96 have different fuel systems so he did not need a black box and i have a 98 so i do need one..... if that is true, will hahn supply that for pretty cheap or should i put out more money on a missing link? thanks guys, i appreciate your help"
IMO, just get the missing link, as many have had problems with HRC's black box FCD.

I just wanted to add that KidCapO's kit was originally a stage 2, so the wastegate has the 9psi actuator. You may want to consider getting the stage one 5psi actuator for it. You can always raise the boost, but you can't lower it below the wastegate setting.

he wants 1500 for his turbo kit, then im getting the stage 1 piping from someone else, now im finding out that since he has a different year i have to go buy an fcd or a missing link AND a different "psi actuator" which i think has just made my decision not to do it, since in the first place he told me there was going to be an intercooler and then changed it. i think this is just too much of a damn headache, i think i would rather pay the extra 1600 on top of the 1500 and get a brand spankin new one and not have to worry about it.
thanks guys

Yeah falcon, that was what I was talking about with the wastegate spring. You'll be getting one set at 9psi when you need a 7.
