I’m gathering parts for my rebuild now, and will soon be shopping for a turbo. I'm putting together a custom stage 3 setup @15psi or so, and am shooting for a 300hp goal. I know that 300+ can be accomplished on a 20g or a t3/t4 however; I would like to reach full boost at around 3500RPM. As of right now, the turbos that I am currently looking at are the s20g and 50-57 trim t3/t4s. I've done a lot of searching and haven't been able to find the answers that I'm looking for. Basically, which one of these turbos (if any) will best help me to reach my goals? I’m not looking to build a drag car by any means nor do I plan on running over 15psi. In fact, after the turbo goes on I will be turning my focus to aesthetic mods (because I’m a ricer at heart, and I enjoy it). Thanks for the assistance.

i think the s16g, properly tuned, should get u there no problem. you wont have a problem with spoolup, its a reliable turbo, flows well, and easy to rebuild if neseceary.

I've considered the s16g, but my question is how many people are actually running 300+whp with one? I know that siueclipse is pushing 350 or so on a 20g and some others are making 300 with the star kits but I havent heard of many doing it with the 16g. I've heard of alot of 250+ numbers but very few 300s. Perhaps there are more than I have seen, and if this is the case, then a 16g is definately what I'm looking for.

remember, bigger isnt always better, a s16g will get u there, its been done plenty of times, if im not mistaken siueclipse made 329 or so with s16g. its alll about tunning

For 300 whp, all you need is a 16G. It's efficient up to about 22-23 psi and very capable of producing the numbers that you are trying to achieve. For example, with HRC's S-16G, I achieved 310 fwhp at 18 psi, untuned, cat-converter and a stock gs-t cat-back. A 20G can certainly produce those numbers, but you won't get the quick spool up like you could with the 16G. With my S-20G, I don't see full boost until after 4K+ RPMs.

my 20g hits full boost at 3800 rpm.
the 16g will take you to 300whp.. however.. running 22psi of boost will require race fuel.. the 20g has so far taken me to 349whp on pump gas at somewhere between 19 and 21lbs of boost.
i say go for the 20g.
oh and btw.. i never came close to the 300whp mark with a 16g. until you run a 16g then switch to a 20g youll never know the difference, and its a big one.

Im in CA so im stuck with good ol' 91 octane which is why 15psi is my limit. So 19psi at 3800 rpm? Sounds like thats what im after. Which s20g are you running? It's my understanding that there is more than 1 type.

True, but 300+ whp can be achieved with the S-16 or equivalent. I've done it on 93 octane. I can try to find the dyno run sheet. I also agree that it is easier to get the same amount of horsepower out of the bigger turbo at the same boost level. I was simply pointing out what was only NEEDED, not what was WANTED, to achieve the same result.

I was there when Kon(fly1) dyno'd his car. His numbers are legit. It was kinda funny, he was so rich w/ the efi that he was spitting gas out of the exhaust! Thats pretty fn rich. His spool up problems are probably coming from his setup i think, I'd be willing to bet hes got to much timing down low and its causing that spooolup to slow. If you only plan to run 15-17 psi you would be fine w/ a 16g turbo. If you want big numbers the go w/ a bigger turbo. One thing that is nice w/ a bigger turbo is the lag, most think its bad but when you toss 300whp at 215 series tires only up front then you'll think differently about wanting to spool at 3200rpms. If you want to run alot of boost do some research on the compressor maps, you'll be loosing efficency on a 16g at 20+ psi, whereas you'll almost be sitting pretty w/ a 20g or t3/t4. You could always go w/ a smaller trim t3/t4 and get a nice spool and big cfm. Just a thought.

if you have the car tuned right you should not be limited to 15psi on 91 octane. you should be able to atleast run 18psi and more if you pull some timing out.
ona 16g you can get 300whp i cant remember but i thought one of the ard boyz was in the 360 range ona 16g
lag ona fwd for drivability is good.
