Got my compression test results today. 164, 162, 162 and 154. 40k on the engine, plan on installing turbo (HRC stage 2)in a few months. Should I bite the bullet and rebuild the engine or am I kosher?

You only have 40k on the engine and your numbers are that low? Well, if I were you I'd go ahead and rebuild first unless you have a second car on hand if your motor blows.

Damn it. Maybe its somthing stupid an easily fixed. I'll have a leakdown test done and see whats up.

Was the engine driven for at least 15 min?

did u warm up the engine? is that on a stock block? if u did warm it up, and thats on a stock block, thats not good.

wow those numbers are really low. Thats like the compression for a 4g63. Yours should be close to 200 to be in condition for more power. Try to put in a teaspoon or so of oil in each cylinder and crank it over a few times to see if it is your piston rings loosing compression. Make sure you let the car get up to temp also.

Oh yeah, probably should've asked if it was a warm test. Anyhoo, I'd seriously consider a rebuild.

Good point on the warm test. I'm not sure. I just dropped it off at Firestone to have some ac work done and I had them do it. I'll have satan do a leakdown test soon. $150 too steep for a leakdown you think?

Ok, I did some reading and I am trying to find the problem myself with my limited experiance/knowlege. Should little puffs be comming out of the dipstick tube?

oh damn... You either have a cracked ring land or a horrible head gasket leak. But by the way that all of your numbers a proportionally low, I would say headgasket.

Man, Im gunna drop a bomb on my mechanic if its a broken ring land. I just had this engine installed 2 months ago (hydrolocked, I have bad luck and poor judgement of puddles). Headgasket I can deal with. What do you think the cause of either one may be?

Puffs of smoke out of the dipstick and a sure sign of internal failure of some kind. like he said, since your cylinders are ALL low, its most like the HG. id have the mechanic that sourced/installed the engine do it, since he got you a crappy motor. and 150 for a leakdown test is an ass rapeing. you can do it yourself for free, plus the cost of a compression tester and a teaspoon full of oil. if its the HG, LD test wouldnt show any improvements.

Yeah, 'cept that's not a leakdown. That's a wet compression test.
