Hey guys...

Can someone explain to me how come a "Super16G" is "good up to 400hp" ?

Has it got something to do with Max Airflow @ Max efficient psi for a 2.0L engine specifically, or is it a "ballpark number based on experience"?

'Coz assuming that I had a fully race ported, oversized-valve, cammed, borded, stroked mean mother of an engine with a Super16G... would I still be restricted to 400HP?

Oh and on a funny/sad note, a guy I know dynoed his GS-T (4G63):

It's all about airflow.

You can push more air (be it intake air or exhaust gas) through a bigger opening than a smaller one. Turbos have maximum airflow rates depending on size. a S16G will have a lrger capacity to flow ait than say a T25. There are several other factors involved that some of the other guys will likely enlighten you on, but as i understand it, the only thing that really limits how much horsepower a turbo can produce is the amount of exhaust gas it can flow out, and the amount of intake air it can flow in, both of which are directly related to the size of the housing.

The maximun rated airflow of the given turbo. Say it can force out 600CFM of air.. that's good for x amount of HP. (that'd also be a fairly large turbo, like a S20G. i think they're rated somewhere around there.)

There was a post not too long ago on turbo sizes and thier rated airflow capacity. if you search for it, you might be able to find it.

...the power rating is usually conservative, so that it will make at least that much power on any car, even if safely(HRC) or poorly tuned. For the most part turbos aren't rated for anything over 90K miles but they can last up to 125K with care (oil cooler, TT, regular oil change)

yeah I never really got the "rated" thing either. So a T25 is good for up to 250hp. So if I put in on a 250hp in line 6cyl then what? IS it good for 250hp on top of that?

EZ the bigger the turbo the more horsies, take more to spin it but you'll get more horsies. I'm guessing the up to HP thing is if you ran enough pressure through it say like 20 PSI you can get this much HP. so it would go (total capacity of turbo) - X HP for like how much it has left to offer you. That's the way I think about it, heh like my engine will stand a chance at 20 PSI in it's present form :P
