Yep. Just bend the dip stick away from the dp.

mine is like 2 inches away from it, but you should be able to bend it away easily.

off topic:

when i got my howell shortblock, it included a Neon dipstick which is shorter than the stock one. i tried to yank it out so i could put in the stock one in but it was so stuck in there i didn't want to deal with breaking it so i just dealt with it for almost a year. a few days ago i tried to remove it again (easier now with all of the stuff out of the way) and the thing just snapped off. now i have this little nobule of tubing stuck in the block, it's flush so i can't grab it with pliers or anything. anyone have any tips on how i can extract it?

I was thinking of cutting the dip tube, but the shaving might go in the engine. How about taking off the oil pan and getting the remaining stick there.

i am pretty sure the "dip tube" is only held on with one bolt b/c i remember removing it to to bend it some and then i put it back with no problem. or you can remove it to cut it and not have to worry about the shavings getting into the oil.

OMG ner that sucks man! the block i took out of my car is sitting in the garage with the exact same problem!

i havent looked at it in a while cause its freezing cold outside, but when i come up with a way to extract that thing, ill let you know. im thinking just a long drill bit a hair smaller than the dipstick tube will do it. thats how i got my block dowels out too, as they were cracked when i bought the block.

A spiral bolt extractor should work.

Thats what I'm going to try, same problem here.

yeah the trick with my car is that the block is still in the car with the head off...

...i really don't want to take off the oil pan because i don't want to deal with putting the windage tray back in place, if it decides to un-stick itself from the bedplate. being able to get my cake and eat it too may be impossible, because if any metal shavings get in the oil pan (which they most likely will) i'd have to either do an oil change afterwards, or drop the oil pan to clean it out.

i got the mother f'er out.

i ended up drilling it out with a drill bit slightly larger than the dipstick tube. after about 30 seconds of drilling it, it unseized and the cylindrical shell that was in there came out.

unfortunately, there were a lot of metal shavings that i think went into the oil pan, so i had better not forget to do an oil change before i put everything back together!

oh yeah, the OEM dipstick tube was quite loose when i went to put it back in there, so i wraped the end with a few layers of teflon tape. should do the trick.

Right about until it gets sucked up and blocks the intake strainer.

I think I have the same problem. I wrapped some of the hoses around the DP with a heat shield and every now and then when I'm looking under the hood while the car is running I'll see some steam. I'm pretty sure it's from the heatshield wrap sizzling on the DP.

just gotta get crafty kids. i took my dipstick out and re-bent it to curve around the HRC downpipe. its funny to see so many people with the same problems as me :thumbsup
